Have one HC1, it's awesome and has been my NAS device for many years now. Had aspirations of buying a bunch more and making a disk cluster.
I see that those guys were discontinued and HK came out with the HC4 with the toaster form factor.
I can't stack toasters. I have never been a fan of the toaster form factor generally because you're exposing the drive socket on the pcb to a lot of potential stress from impact / knocking it over / whatever. It's cute but not really practical for a long term installation.
will there ever be another HC1,2 form factor device?

We have no plan to make a new HC series in near future due to very limited demands.
Sorry about that.

The HC crowd must be vocal as I've seen a lot of feedback regarding them.

Re: will there ever be another HC1,2 form factor device?
I think there are some technical reasons why the HC1/2 form factor isn't continued:
First of all, it supported a single drive and many complained they couldn't do RAID or extend the storage. Secondly, being based on xu4, the board was very small (and more complex, had more layers, etc). In comparison, hc4 is huge. So keeping the same form factor would make a future hc longer and maybe wider.
