Emmc slot dead on XU4?

Post by lightsout »

Been trying to flash dietpi to emmc card to no avail. Thought something was happening with the flash. Tried flashing ubuntu that didn't work either. No activity on ethernet port, no display from hdmi, no fan spin up.

Figured I should rule out if the emmc card was dead. Flashed ubuntu and popped it into my C4 and it booted right up.

Anyone heard of the emmc slot dying/no longer working? I am using the switch, that could be the problem as well I suppose.

The xu4 is working great from the sd card. Dietpi been running 24/7 for months.

Stuck as to how to proceed.

If the xu4 boots from sd, leave an emmc in and check if you can read/write to it post boot. Chances are it will work fine.
Next, depending on emmc pcb color:
- black ones aren't bootable on xu4
- orange ones need a recent ubuntu to be flashed in order to be supported
- red/orange may need to go through the emmc recovery process to have the xu4 bootloader flashed in the hidden blocks of the emmc.
And boot switch needs to be in the emmc position...

This is helpful. I got the xu4 second hand. It came with a red emmc that he used with the device. He flashed it clean when he sent it. I don't think it's ever worked on the xu4.

I was able to flash an ubuntu image and the emmc booted fine on my C4.

Any idea how to proceed with a red emmc, does what you said still apply if it is working on the C4.

I need to do what you said with the sd card loaded and see if I can see the emmc within the os

The C4 doesn't need the special boot sector so it would work, you should try the recovery process.

Just ran across that. Thanks. I can mount the emmc within dietpi as well so looks like this should be the fix. Hoping so. I'll try on my day off tomorrow.

Appreciate the help.
