XU3 flickering HDMI output

Unread postby mad_ady » Mon Mar 20, 2017 6:25 pm

Hello all,
I have an older XU3 that started to display flickering through its HDMI port. Also, there seems to be a color missing. Here's a video of what is going on: https://youtu.be/WofjPlx3GkY

I'm using a microhdmi-HDMI adapter (I've changed it, but the problem persists), and also I tried it on a different TV and with a different HDMI cable.

My question is - is there a known (fixable) defect with the microhdmi port on the XU3? (wiggling the cable sometimes makes the image look better). Any recommandations on what I could do to improve things?
Thanks

those micro hdmi port`s have well known to be buggy especially on the xu3..
you could try som contact cleaner via a spry pack.
.this may help..remove the xu3 from its case if you are using one and refit the hdmi cable making shure of a true fitting....

Is that alcohol based cleaner? Also, is it reasonable to assume the whole connector could be changed with a normal one + wires by a skilled phone repairbshop?

Pure Alcohol should be fine.

No. wiring/soldering on 340Mhz is not a good idea.

Thank you. So the main problem with replacing it would be the fact that cable length would introduce varying delays between the pins, right?
I should try enabling the display port as a backup then... It should work under android as well, right?

i know your waiting for odroid..but i thought i would shre my input

i suggest getting an original replacement rather than go with the wired full size socket
the wiring to attach to the board would have to be very fine grade
and i dont think that it would be strong enough unless you could make the full size socket ridged...this may be quite a hard task

yes i think if you can get a screen working from the display port this is prolly your best option...

DisplayPort doesn't work on Android until enable the proper drivers.

Thanks for the advice. I dislike the microhdmi port because I need an adapter to use it - that's why I had thought of a regular sized port. But I hadn't thought of differences in cable length would cause propagation differences and hence a difference in timing causing the thing not to work.
DisplayPort sounds like a safer bet, but I'll need an adapter as well :)
