[GAMES] Heroes Of Might and Magic 3 (VCMI)

VCMI
Is a entire rewrite of the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 game engine, making the game run on many systems as well as in HD.

Image



The project is very far and even allows to play the original campaigns.
It allows for high resolutions up to 1080p.
It also supports different mods which can be downloaded from the project page: http://wiki.vcmi.eu/index.php?title=Mod_list

The AI is a little bit slow in my opinion which makes turns unnecessary long.

You will need the original Game Files (Data, Maps, Mp3 folder) copy those to /usr/local/share/vcmi/

* Support for submods - mod may have their own "submods" located in <modname>/Mods directory
* Mods may provide their own changelogs and screenshots that will be visible in Launcher
* Mods can now add new (offensive, buffs, debuffs) spells and change existing
* Mods can use custom mage guild background pictures and videos for taverns, setting of resources daily income for buildings

GENERAL:
* Added configuring of heroes quantity per player allowed in game


You can download the package from my repository all/main (see my signature on how to do so).
If you never had vcmi installed before you can install it with

if you already had version 0.95 installed you will get the update automatically if you have my repository installed.
If you want to install it manually:

What you need to start:
after installation you should start:

this will download the necessary files for vcmi and the expention WoG and install them automatically into $HOME/.local/share/vcmi/
In this folder you need to put the Folder Data Maps and MP3 from your Heroes of Might and Magic III installtion.
in the end it should look like this:

Does not work on my Odroid U3 with Xubuntu.

VCMI Client starts and closes after 2 seconds.

Anyone got the same problems?

try running it from terminal so you see what it's complaining about. (just type vcmiclient in terminal)

ever since 0.97 VCMI made some changes that I really don't like.
They removed any resolution different than 800x600, there are some patches (addons) that can bring back higher resolutions, but the game got extremely laggy with these.
Only 800x600 or at maximum 1024x768 are working "fluently" while previously even 1080p was working fine.

They switched to SDL2 which is nice since it can actually GLESv2 hardware rendering, but while they select GLESv2 as a rendering engine, they never create a GLESv2 context and therefore everything is rendered in software mode it seems.

I want to check the current code on changes, but haven't got around to do this yet. I've builds of vcmi 0.97 and 0.98 as well, but up to now wasn't satisfied with the performance of these builds.

haven't you build VCMI a while back for Ubuntu 16.04? O_o

I will probably make an update for my packages soon as there are a couple new versions available already.
I already started a while back but had to stop due to missing QT5 support for arm64, but since I fixed that I can now finish the packages for Debian Jessie and Stretch again for armhf and arm64.
Still they will be for Debian not for Ubuntu.

Seems like a config file is missing.. maybe you're missing the default modules?

Hello tout le monde!
moi par contre, J'ai découvert ça il n'y a pas trop longtemps, c'est surtout fait par des russes (vu qu'ils sont très nombreux à y jouer encore) mais pas seulement. Il s'agit d'un launcher spécial pour l'édition complète d'Heroes 3 (pas celle de steam évidemment), avec plein de mods, Dafont MapQuest FileHippo nouvelles villes, créatures, packs graphiques, héros, etc... Je vous laisse le lien, à vous de vous faire votre avis (par contre le site est en anglais, j'y peux rien).

Ah oui et ça marche sur android (mais ça galère et crash souvent, du moins pour moi)
