have you restarted the system after you installed the updates?
The output of the log said something about Kernel 4.14.28+ we're currently at 4.14.133+ so you're quite a few updates behind.

Just tried updating and dis-upgrade and they both say there's zero updates needed . Also just checked what version i'm running :
Looks like i'm fully upto date. Is there a newer stretch image of yours I should be using or is this the best one?

So when I launch step mania from terminal or doubleclick on icon it looks like it wants to load , it comes up with the centre slotted bar with stepmania logo in the middle and then a window pops up thats black . And then it just shuts everything down .

can you try installing "glmark2-es2" and run it to see if GPU acceleration is working at all?
Also don't start the game as user root, please start it as a regular desktop user.

Ok in normal teminal i installed glmark2-es2 and ran the graphics bench mark and runs great . rebooted and tried stepmania and same issue . Heres what the terminal said :

hmm that's kinda odd, as it's looks similar to what I have on my image where it's working.
And that the window is opening also means it starts the GPU thread and everything.
Is there something special about your setup that one should know of.. using a low res monitor or something like that?

I think I did it right ? and theres nothing abnormal with what I'm using .Just a pc monitor ,16gb sandisk sd card, xu4 odroid- hdmi , ethernet and power cable . then just a cordless mouse and keyboard to navigate .

looks ok, aside the fact that it was once again the user root not the regular user.
I added a Save.zip file which is the settings I use, it's made for 1920x1080 screen and runs in fullscreen mode.
You should extract it into your .stepmania-5.1 folder of your regular user (not root).

Well the fullscreen tried to work . It opens the new window into fullscreen but then closes straight away again .

@shawbclift did glmark2 runs well also on your side. I've seen glmark2-es2 ran, but I haven't seen repport of regular glmark2.
Anyway, in the log, there are all the "Link failed because of missing fragment shader" and "Link failed because of missing vertex shader" error messages. Linking only a fragment or vertex shader is not supported yet in gl4es. That's on my (near) TODO, but that may explain the crash, as it seems a few program are missing because of this.

currently I can't get it to work, but I remember I got it to work once.. currently it complains about glXChooseFBConfig (we already had a discussion about this function in the past).
But I remember when glmark2 was running with gl4es it was the same speed as glmark2-es2 which was quite fascinating.
I get the same error, but it's working fine for me. I could recreate the issue with my ODROID C2 and the current gl4es version.
When I used an older version of gl4es, both stepmania and glmark2 were working fine.... hmmm.

I could recreate the issue with my ODROID C2 and the current gl4es version.
When I used an older version of gl4es, both stepmania and glmark2 were working fine.... hmmm.

I reinstalled everything onto a new sd-card and no luck it's doing the same thing .
As for glmark2 , I installed it just fine and it ran the test window ok alhough a bit more laggy than glmark2-es.@shawbclift did glmark2 runs well also on your side. I've seen glmark2-es2 ran, but I haven't seen repport of regular glmark2.

I'm currently uploading a new version of gl4es (libgl-odroid) and if you do a system upgrade in a couple of minutes:
the new version will be installed after which stepmania should be working fine again.

The ODROID N2 has no working X11 acceleration which is why you can't run it as is.
Start stepmania from the terminal with the following command: if that doesn't work try LIBGL_FB=2
Please note, this will run the game in full screen mode even if you have window mode selected, and the rest of the screen will just be empty space.
It's best to configure stepmania to run in desktop resolution.

Hello.
I realize this is an old thread but hoping to find some assistance. I am trying to see if I can repurpose my C2 to play stepmania. After installing and updating, I am not able to get to load. Hi! I know this is an old thread, but I am wanting to use my odroid C4 for StepMania.
Is it possible to play it on the C4? What do I need to do to make it work?
Update: I installed Ubuntu Mate, the official image from hardkernel and installed the packages necessary. However, now I get the same issue as the user before me, the exact same issue. It loads fine, until it crashes.

If you're using my image for the C4 you can simply install it.
Other images, you probably have to build the game yourself as the game is not available on most OS.

Yes, I did manage to get it installed. And when I run it from the terminal, it seems to boot normally, shows the loading screen and pops up a new window. But before the window loads anything, it crashes. This is the log before it reaches that point:
I didnt read your reply correctly, apologies! I did try your build for debian bullseye, but this gets stuck at the -starting kernel- message for me. Buster boots up, but after installing the desktop environment, my internet doesnt work anymore and the DE is not installed.

The above doesn't look like the correct version:

it also utilized gl4es
which is not used in my Debian Bullseye version of this game, as Debian Bullseye comes with Panfrost opensource GPU drivers which support OpenGL and do not require a workaround with gl4es.
Running this on ODROID C4 with Debian Buster is harder, as the ODROID C4 does not have X11 GPU drivers, and you need to use a workaround with the gl4es and some environment variables to be able to run it on an ODROID C4.
Which also will reduce overall performance of the application.
Best is to actually run the Debian Bullseye image that I provide, install a Desktop like MATE and install stepmania-odroid package.. the game will run out of the box, just tested this a couple of minutes ago.
