ODROID UPS PowerState

Unread postby MartinZa » Tue Jun 03, 2014 4:04 pm

Hi,
I'm using the ODROID U3 UPS. Is there a way to get the state of the batteries so I could add an LED to blink if the state is 20% for example.
If that would work, is it also possible to connect that led to the 8 pin socket of U3 (which is connected with the UPS)?

kind regards
Martin

Unfortunately there is no way to read the battery level (power state).
We should add an ADC or a few voltage comparators on the UPS PCB.
Sorry about that. :(

I think if you have the U3 IO shield, you can use an ADC to read the voltage of your battery.

Is it possible to simultaneously connect the UPS and the IO shield? If so, how?

You should solder the DC plug cable to UPS board and connect the DC plug to DC jack on ODROID board.
And connect the battery output to an ADC input of IO Shield with an extra wire.

Here's another vote for finding a way to detect via gpio/adc the actual voltage output. We need, not only for UPS, but to know how much reserve is available before running a process.

Is there a suggested approach using the U3 I/O shield? what pins, voltage divider setup, etc.?

Thanks for any tips,
Chris.

Hi chrisjx,

U3 I/O shield and UPS2 were difficult to use at the same time, because it share same GPIO.

If you read battery voltage using U3 I/O shield. please use PIN#10 of U3(JP5 #14) or PIN#9 of U3(JP5 #13) and there is no need voltage divider in my mind.
