U3 - which distro for Kodi

Unread post by mfpass » Mon Mar 09, 2015 7:43 pm

Hi,

I read several posts here and still not sure so decided to ask experienced users. I want to use U3 for HTPC installation (currently have old Atom with ION but hardware problems started) but I am not sure what to choose to get smoothest system with hardware acceleration. Should I go with Ubuntu or Android?

I prefer Android. I use ES File Explorer to access Samba shares which then autolaunches MX Player. Kodi works well in Android too, its just my preference to use something more lightweight.

The Openelec is also very good. Have used it myself.

Hi,

I tried both and for me performance is better with OpenELEC than android, but I have some doubts if hardware acceleration is used. When I press 'o' during playback I always have 'ff-h264/mpeg/vc' depends on file format. is it correct hardware codec? If not how to enable it (I have it enabled in OpenELEC settings).
