Had one of these in the draw for a while, never used it for anything. Finally found a use for it 9 years later, but I could do with some help on the best way to set it up.
I'd like it to run a home assistant screen. All it has to do is run a browser on full screen (Or the HA app) but via a Waveshare 7.9" touchscreen which needs this in the config somewhere
"hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
hdmi_timings=400 0 100 10 140 1280 10 20 20 2 0 0 0 60 0 43000000 3"
What is the easiest way to achieve this?

Found to be updated linux images here, but odroid_u3-armv7l-bookworm.img doesn't seem to boot for me. Tried an SD card and emmc (after a recovery process which did seem to work)

Re: Getting an old U3 going
The HDMI timing generator in the Samsung Exynos SoC has a very low flexibility.
It means that the HDMI output on your U3 can support only standard TV resolutions like 1920x1080 and 1280x720 with a few VESA standard like 1280x1024, 1024x768, 800x600 and 640x480.
So I don't think there's any chance that your vertically long 400x1280 LCD will work.

Thanks. I do have some other screens to try so would still like to get this going. Any idea why it won't boot?

Try @meveric's Debian Bullseys OS image with a generic 1920x1080 FHD monitor.

Re: Getting an old U3 going
For a HomeAssistant dashboard I'd go with the latest android version you can get for it + the HA app. The benefits (apart from simplicity) are that you get control over the odroid through HA (it exposes whatever sensors it has).

Re: Getting an old U3 going
Thanks, tried it on both micro SD and emmc but just get a red light.
Is there anything else I can try?

Remove the eMMC module and connect a microSD card only.
Did you flash @meveric's Debian image into the microSD card with Etcher?

Re: Getting an old U3 going
I did indeed try it with just the micro SD card flashed with Balena. No boot though?

Re: Getting an old U3 going
do you have an UART to check what happens during boot?
