Unread post by Andrew the Sloth » Thu Jun 12, 2014 3:37 am

Hi all,
I would like to use an external USD Audio DAC to create a Hi Fi audio source, but the problem is this:
download Linux OS, I tried Ubuntu 14.04 or Ubuntu Studio founded here on forum
flash the OS on microSD
turn on the Odroid U3
plug in the USB audio DAC, immediately recognized, set on PulseAudio the correct output
everything works fine, great sound
don-t change anything
turn off the U3
than turn on again
the DAC is recongnized but no sound come out from the headphone plug of the DAC
Please HELP

It doesn't works. My problem is not that the external DAC is not recognized as default card, but that no sound come out from the jack.
If I go into PulseAudio I can see that external USB sound card is recognized and set as default, but it doesn't works I listen some "pop" through the headphone and stop.
I flashed the OS today the external DAC works good at the first start, for some reasons I had to remove the power plug instead of shutting down the system properly...when I started again the system the external DAC worked again correctly, then I rebooted the system and after that the DAC didn't work anymore. It seems that the system do something wrong during shutting down procedures. I don't know. :( :( :(

I don't know what DAC you are using..
I tested here with a CMedia 108 based USB dongle and it works just fine..
I can reboot forever.

I did another test:
if I remove the USB card before to shut down the system at the restart the USB Dac will work again,
if i keep the USB Dac plugged in and I reboot the system after the restart the audio card doesn't work anymore...forever.
Every time that I start for example gstreamer to listen a flac file I hear a very little "pop" through the headphone and stop.

Try to issue an reset of the corresponding USB bus after the reboot.

Hi,

Is there any solution for this problem? It's pretty old thread, which i pumped into while searching a solution. I think I am having exactly problem like this. I have had to re-flash the ODroid emmc 3 times now. Same problem with Ubuntu and Volumio.

The dac that I am connecting to is MSB The Analog Dac.

I wonder if it has to do something with channel mappings. I ran this "alsa-info.sh" with and without the problem and here are the changes I found.

Not works
========

Code: Select all

card 2: M20 [MSB USB Audio 2.0], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
Works
=====

Code: Select all

card 2: M20 [MSB USB Audio 2.0], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
Not works
========

Code: Select all

state.M20 {
	control.1 {
		iface PCM
		name 'Playback Channel Map'
		value.0 0
		value.1 0
		...
	}
Works
=====

Code: Select all

state.M20 {
	control.1 {
		iface PCM
		name 'Playback Channel Map'
		value.0 3
		value.1 4
		...
	}
So if that has anything to do with the problem, it seems like during the boot if the DAC is connected, the system finds a new subdevice. And also the something changes the channel mappings to zeroes. How do i force the channel mappings back to how they were? I am not that familiar with Linux audio.
