Questions about USB Webcam and USB hub compatibility

Unread post by P1X3 » Sun Jan 12, 2014 1:26 pm

It is time to order some more hardware for my project.

I would love to know if lens on the 720p camera sold by hard-kernel is interchangeable. Those cameras will be installed in a car, so wide-angle lens is a must.
Looking at the pictures https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-usb-cam-720p/ it is really hard to tell, but I think I see ridges on the lens which probably means that it can be replaced.
Anyhow, I would love to hear more on this.

Along with webcam, I will need a externally powered USB hub. I wouldn't want to run into compatibility issues, so are there specific chipsets or brands I should avoid?
I would prefer dual usb hub (two males connecting to odroid) and then 7+ ports on hub, but with these devices compatibility is always a concern.
http://www.amazon.com/7-Port-USB-Squid- ... rt+usb+hub Something like this would be nice, yet I wonder if bandwidth might be an issue.

I think you need to break the camera plastic case to replace your own lens.
There is only a flat transparent PMMA (Poly methyl methacrylate) which is glued on the plastic frame.

The 7-port USB hub should be compatible with ODROID if it has an externa PSU.
We've never been heard any compatibility issue of USB hub since over 2 years.

Thank you for information. I am coming from rpi rev2 and it has so many issues.
Glad I upgraded to ODROID.

Would it make any sensor to get one of those 7port usb hubs that use two male usb connections for higher bandwidth?

What is the estimated band width in max?

Accumulated band width of all the connected devices must be lower than 480Mbps.
In the real world, it seems to be about 320~350Mbps.

The most bandwidth hungriest devices that I will use are probably usb cameras. I will start with two or three, and maybe add two more later.
Other devices are wifi, gps, bluetooth, hspa+ modem, and two usb devices for serial comms.
