Heatsink: thermal paste instead of the thermal tape?

what thermal paste did you use?

I only remember it was a beryllium oxide thermal paste as was mentioned on it's tube.

A white one, an "usual" one not cheap and nor expensive, bought ten years ago for this purpose.

Could be a good quality thermal compound that doesn't age quickly.
Maybe the need to replace thermal paste over time depends on the quality of a paste.

Certainly it's a good idea to apply a new layer if a heatsink was removed for any reason, otherwise a lot of air will be trapped.

Thanks for your measurements. Now you can test the same SBC when lying flat and standing upright like I did with M1.

PS. And yes after detaching the heatsink from the chip its good to "redo", wiping the old and applying a new compound
