VP9 hardware support?

Unread postby jdhanley » Sat Jan 04, 2014 12:15 am

I just read this article today:
http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/02/google ... ng-chance/

Will VP9 hardware decoding be considered for the ODROID?

Thanks!

Adding a hardware support for a CODEC doesn't quite work like that.

There's the MFC, its the VPU of the Samsung Exynos chip.
If the VPU supports that Codec it will be supported on ODROID. If the VPU can't support that.. sorry nothing we can actually do.

Its not something easy or addable.

Also its VERY new I doubt that any SoC supports it right now.

So, no.. I don't think that this will be available..

Looks like the S905X has VP9 but It's not available on a SBC yet.
