pepperflash 11.7.700.225

Unread post by gripped » Sat Sep 28, 2013 9:24 am

I have been playing with arch linux and while at it came across this

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/chro ... sh-armv7h/

I managed to get flash working in chromium with it on Arch (can't get mali working properly though that's another story)

So I'm now using the Lubuntu-13.04_Whisper-U2 image and have got it working on there as well.

The AUR Pkgbuild uses this archive https://www.dray.be/PepperFlash-11.7.70 ... v7h.tar.gz
edit file now at https://www.dray.be/arch/files/PepperFl ... v7h.tar.gz
edit again use this newer one
http://odroidxu.leeharris.me.uk/PepperF ... v7h.tar.gz

Be warned I know nothing about the trustworthiness of the files , indeed the ssl certificate for https://www.dray.be is invalid.
I assume its been extracted from a ARM chromebook ?

To install you extract the archive and copy the Pepperflash dir to /usr/lib

Then edit /etc/chromium-browser/default so it look like this

Code: Select all

# Default settings for chromium-browser. This file is sourced by /bin/sh from
# /usr/bin/chromium-browser

# Options to pass to chromium-browser
CHROMIUM_FLAGS=" --ppapi-flash-path=/usr/lib/PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so --ppapi-flash-version=11.7.700.225"
Open a tab with chrome:plugins and then disable gnash and enable pepperflash

I also had to delete ~/.config/chromium (I'm sure its possible to be more selective in what you delete from there) as before doing this the video was black but I could hear the sound.

Thanks for your description. I read a hint to this pepperflash player somewhere in the forum some time ago and tried it myself (but it was a lower version, so thanks for this new link :) ). I had similiar problems with the videos not showing up sometimes and isolated the file which caused that problem from time to time. In my case it was enough to remove the file ~/.config/chromium/Local\ State. So I created a script to start chrome with your flags above after removing that file.
Perhaps this information helps others, too.

Cheers for pointing me in the right direction with ~/.config/chromium/Local\ State.

It doesn't happen on the arch install and I notice there is a mention in ~/.config/chromium/Local\ State. of lightspark which is not installed. Maybe part of the issue.
Anyway I'm happy as I can now watch Iplayer , itvplayer and 4od on my TV.

I installed Chromium and PepperFlash as communicated before, but I still get an error; every time I try to open a YouTube video, the most first try's results in an error like 'not able to open location' or something like that. The second time I try it al works fine. After stopping the video, sometimes the whole screen goes black. I already deleted the config directory of Chromium, but without luck.

Does anyone have a clue?

To be more precise; the error is 'video is currently unavailable'. Sometimes the screen blacks out half way in a video, sometimes only at the end, sometimes not at all.

Can anyone help me with this?

I only had the similar problem to you when using a prebuilt ubuntu image for the U2 , I think it was 'whisper'. With the Arch Linux I had on the U2 and now on the XU I've never had this problem.
My assumption is that there is some left over plugins or parts of plugins that are causing the problem.
My work around was to write a small script which deleted ~/.config/chromium/Local\ State and then ran chromium and use that script to start chromium.
I think another approach maybe to purge chromium and any plugins etc and then reinstall.

I did do some investigation making diffs of ~/.config/chromium/Local\ State at various points but could not work out what was causing the error.
My comment about 'Lightspark' in a post above is probably a red herring as I've just checked and that is in ~/.config/chromium/Local\ State on the Arch install and yet I've had no such plugin installed and have no black screen errors.

Sorry I can't be much more help.

I already delete the whole folder, each time Chromium starts. Are there any other folders to purge? Where are the plugins located? I use Chromium 28, because 29 generates a one pixel high gray line at the top of the screen, in kiosk mode. Are there other versions to try?

Any other possible solution?

I've installed Pepper Flash successfully on both Whisper 13.04 and 13.10, thanks to @gripped's instructions.

Make sure to turn off Hardware Acceleration in Chrome's Advanced Settings, otherwise you will get only audio and a black screen.

That was a slight positive change, but the problem still remains. I think I'll give a other image a try.

I've searched for the 'Whisper' image for the XU, but cannot find it anywhere. Or do I need this one (Ubuntu 13.04 Mate Desktop for the Odroid XU)?

I haven't published Whisper for the -XU yet. You can use the Mate Desktop image for now.

What worked for me was to get the tarball from https://www.dray.be/arch/files/PepperFl ... v7h.tar.gz (note that this location differs from the one mentioned above) and copy the PepperFlash/libpepflashplayer.so file contained within to /usr/lib (can be anywhere though, just make sure you use the exact location in the following bit).

Next, when you run chromium, either invoke it like this:
chromium-browser --ppapi-flash-path=/usr/lib/libpepflashplayer.so --ppapi-flash-version=11.7.700.225 --ppapi-flash-args=enable_hw_video_decode=0,enable_stagevideo_auto=0,enable_trace_to_console=0
or alternatively, place the following in your .bashrc:
export CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--ppapi-flash-path=/usr/lib/libpepflashplayer.so --ppapi-flash-version=11.7.700.225 --ppapi-flash-args=enable_hw_video_decode=0,enable_stagevideo_auto=0,enable_trace_to_console=0"

From this point on, things tend to behave quite nicely for me.

I installed that 12.0.0.77 version on xu & xubuntu 13.10 in chromium. Approx 50% of the youtube video cannot be seen correctly (the livetv.ru streams are ok). perhaps is the older version better?
Why?
firefox with greasemonkey is ok for youtube (not ok for streams from livetv.ru).
wanted urgently for home: streaming in firefox and looking films in youtube.

I just flicked through about 15 random youtube videos and they were all fine with 12.0.0.77 bar one ( which was fine once I changed the video resolution).
What version is your chromium ? I tested on Chromium 33.0.1750.152.

The new plugins works of course, but when I crank it up to 720P in Youtube (Chrome) it lags every 10 seconds and sometimes lags for good for a minute or two.
Tried some graphics intensive flash games and returns me with the above result. Lags every so often and sometimes for good. I'll stick to 11.7 which is compatible with 12.0 Content while waiting for a fix.

If you right click on the one you said was broken I think you'll find that Youtube is serving it with HTML5 not Flash. I downgraded my pepperflash to check and its still HTML5.

There is a Tampermonkey script 'Youtube center' which is supposed to be able to force Flash on Youtube , amongst many other things, but it seems buggy to me. There may be other methods to disable HTML5 video in chrome. If I find one which works I'll post it.
