do-release-upgrade I think work on Odroid-U2 to 16.04.3 LTS

Unread postby Raymond Day » Sat Feb 03, 2018 7:30 am

Got my refurbished Odroid-U2 today. I just suck the 8GB emmc I had on the 1st Odroid-U2 I got that don't work. The refurbished one booted right up.

It said had "New release "16.04.3 LTS" available.

Did a apt update and apt upgrade and then do-release-upgrade and reboot.

It comes up saying this:

Code: Select all
 root@192.168.86.38's password:
Welcome to Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (GNU/Linux 3.8.13.30 armv7l)

 * Documentation:  https://help.ubuntu.com
 * Management:     https://landscape.canonical.com
 * Support:        https://ubuntu.com/advantage
New release '16.04.3 LTS' available.
Run 'do-release-upgrade' to upgrade to it.

Welcome to Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS and No new release found. So it must of worked right?

If so why don't they have a 16.04.3 LTS image to download? At lest I did not see one. I guess this is to old to make that image and if can just upgrade to it don't have to.

Nice I have another Odroid-U2 working again. It's been years for that other one not working. I solder power on to were the power plugs in and that when it stop working. I can't see what I did wrong.

O yes after this upgrade it says for a 8GB emmc 90% used! Not sure if can install any thing else on it.

Plugged in a HDMI monitor and it said something like system not config yet and I clicked that on. Looks like it is finishing installing the 16.04.3 LTS now. It did not tell me that on the command line.

I downloaded the ubuntu-16.04-mate-odroid-u2u3-20160920.img but it just don't boot in the odroid-u2. The power LED comes on and the blue LED just stay on and nothing else.

I guess they did not test this on the odroid-u2.

They most likely tested it on the U3 which is the same as the U2, as the U3 is the most common of the Exynos 4412 boards.

How did you flash it? etcher?

Yes with Etcher and 2 times to and it verified it both times on a 8GB eMMC.

Did the same with the Debian-Jessie-1.1-20170515-U.img it works and got it running on it now.

The Ubuntu 16.04 image worked with U2 and U3.
Can you check the md5sum value of your downloaded file?

I got the same result on my U2. Also using Etcher but with a 16 Gb emmc. Verified flash in Etcher. I verified the checksum and it is correct.
