Archlinux X server

Unread post by DonNabo » Tue Feb 03, 2015 9:23 pm

Hi.
I have install Archlinux on my odroid-u3 like explained here:
http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7 ... /odroid-u3

It works perfect with an old vga (1024x768) monitor, but I can't start the X server after install xorg, etc...
I have been reading some things about it on the forum, but I'm a little lost.
I want install i3wm, but for test it (the X server) I have no problem if you can give me some simple instructions about what I need install and modify for startx with the simple twm, for example.

Thanks a lot!

I pretty sure I recall reading about problems starting X from the console as a user other than root on Arch.
I'm 90% sure it was on this forum (maybe the arch forum ?) and there was a workaround.
Search and see if you can find the thread or try using lightdm , sddm , slim etc. Unless there's a reason you can't or don't want to.

gripped: I didn't think about using lightdm. I will try it like that.

FWIW you can start X bare with something like:

Code: Select all

Xorg & sleep 1 && export DISPLAY=:0 && jwm -display :0
(sleep time may vary)
(you can replace Xorg with xfbdev if someone has it working and jwm with your favorite wm)

Hi All,

Anyone know if 1080P50hz is supported by the graphics driver and boot.ini?
I am suspecting my buffering issues using tvheadend/kodi is due to the display running at 60hz while playing 25/50hz material ..

Thanks

If you use XU3/XU4, refer this link. It supports 50Hz edid/no-edidi config.

This is an Archlinux thread, that link assumes a Ubuntu kernel\boot ... I am running Arch ..

ALARM also used our Ubuntu kernel when we started to port.
So the HDMI settings should be available in the ALARM kernel too.

Did not work.
The TV showed resolution changing to 1080@50hz but there was no display, just black screen ..
