Thank you.

However there appears to be odd interaction between the "HDMI Configuration" set using the Odroid-Utility, and that set using the "Monitor Setting" preference panel, or I'm at least I'm confused on when to use which; especially when attempting to set the display to use 720x1280 being my personal preference.

Previously using Xubunutu 13.10, the use of the Odroid-Utility seems to be necessary to set to 720x1280, so that both the booting and widows used this resolution, but now the Odroid-Utility settings seem to have a different effect on the booting display, and an odd interaction with the Monitor Settings preference (possibly mixing-up the selection between EDID and NO-EDID when selecting 720 vs 1080 resolutions, as I need to select different monitor adaptation modes to property show 1080 vs 720 resolution selections for some reason which I don't recall being necessary before?)

What is the proper use of these two settings? I.e. when should I select 720 vs 1080 using the Odroid-Utility, vs selecting these resolutions within the Monitor Settings preference panel?

(And could you please verify the selection of EDID modes are consistent between both 720 and 1080 display resolution settings when using your Odroid-Utility.)

There's nothing odd here. You just don't understand why odroid-utility does that.
ODROID Utility exists to help people with non-standard monitors or people that needs a specific resolution set a boot.

OK. Specifically how are the two different?

- Does one do something the other doesn't?
- Is one's settings prioritized over the other?
- Which parameters does one set the other doesn't?

(How specifically should they best be used together?)

Thanks for the 14.04 image!
mdrjr wrote:Note that most of the things made / commented on memeka thread applies here.

Can you please elaborate on that? I remember reading the memeka's image would not work properly without editing resolv.conf -- is it applicable to the official image? Are there any post-install actions required to get it working?
Also, the 13.10 official images booted into a menu offering to resize the partition before first Ubuntu launch, has this functionality been kept in this image?

UPDATE: I'll reply to my own questions. There's an ODROID Utility link on the desktop of the odroid user (which actually calls /usr/local/bin/root-utility.sh if you need to run it over ssh connection) and which is used to expand rootfs partition, set hostname, etc.

1. Yes.
2. Yes. odroid-utility takes priority.
3. odroid-utility configures the HDMI at boot and doesn't wait for a valid edid (expect when a edid boot.scr is used).

They shouldn't be used together. You should only use odroid-utility to change resolution if you can't change on the guy or is stuck with 1024x768.

Nope. The resolvconf issue is fixed on this image. Its reverted to stock Lubuntu looks.
And yes.. There's a odroid-utility icon on the desktop that you can do everything that you did with the old tool :)

Image works pretty great so far. Quick check compared to "Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Dev Center 18/05/2014 U2/U3"
- more standard apps (settings, package manager etc.)
- better non-english language support (e.g. German)
- similar cpu usage: ~2-8%, without heavy load

How does installation of metacity work?

sudo apt-get install metacity (already there)
metacity --replace

alone is not enough...?

ok, my own update to enable metacity, which (for me) runs much smoother:

menu/settings/Default applications for LXSession --> Core applications --> Wondows manager --> "metacity"

I am a nOOb. please advice...
Is it now safe to upgrade to 14.04 LTS through software updater?
or do I have to flash the 14.04 LTS image?

please point out towards the upgrade method from 13.10 to 14.04 LTS.

Best wishes :)

HI, can I have a quick update about performance? I remember reading recently one of the other posts on different thread that there is limitation to bitrate, with h264 displaying up to 20Mbps? I've got few 'monsters' in my collection that are uncompressed blurays and I was wondering it they also will be handled by decoder?

Nope.. If it exceeds 20Mbps it won't play. That's the hardware limitation.

hi there, i had some problems getting it to work with my tv set, it always says resolution not supportet.
i had a look into the odroid utility and came to the part in hdmi.sh where it copies the different settings into boot.scr.

i could not find any other files then boot.scr in there so the statement in hdmi.sh:
case "$1" in
"1") cp $BASE/boot-auto_edid.scr $BASE/boot.scr ;;
"2") cp $BASE/boot-1080p-edid.scr $BASE/boot.scr ;;
"3") cp $BASE/boot-1080p-noedid.scr $BASE/boot.scr ;;
"4") cp $BASE/boot-720p-edid.scr $BASE/boot.scr ;;
"5") cp $BASE/boot-720p-noedid.scr $BASE/boot.scr ;;
"6") cp $BASE/boot-1024x768-noedid.scr $BASE/boot.scr ;;

always results in keeping the old config, are theese files missing in this image (checked /boot and /media/boot) , or do i have to do a first time setup or someting to generate them?

Best Regards,
JR.

There's a menu on the "kernel update part" that allows you do update your .scr's :)
It will install all the needed SCRs.

It might be nice to include instructions with future releases, especially when requiring magic incantations to work as intended. (On a more positive note, so far so good otherwise, with an exception that x11vnc presently shuts down 50%-80% of the time within about 10 seconds after being seemingly properly initialized after a reboot, which I presume is due so some race condition associated with either the windowing or communication systems apparently not present on 13.10, but still trying to figure out exactly why.)

Thanks memeka and mdrjr for this image, working well here.

Changed to metacity as advised above and the gui is much smoother, used the same method as harry123.

XBMC is also going good, I'm still amazed by the power of the U3, if my wife gets comfortable using Ubuntu it may replace her PC. :D

Wow, that's weird, x11vnc is rock-solid for me. That was the first thing I've installed and I'm running it on a headless box tho.

After 4 months of waiting for a hw driver and a week ago saying that you can't give an eta for it, i sold mine yesterday because it was useless for my project. Now you give me the driver and an email announcing it. This is just perfect. I'll settle with the miniITX board that I got for the money. Good luck in the future, odroid!

Mali on the U2/U3/X2 is not OpenCL compatible - nothing will make OpenCL work on it.

Awesome work!

Which Lubuntu image would be for the ODROID-XU that has with XBMC Gotham 13.1 in it?

Would it be the lubuntu-14.04lts-desktop-armhf-odroidx_20140612.img.xz?

Thank you very much.

If you have a good network connection, you can go command line in your lubuntu and follow these instructions upon the xbmc site to get 13.1 you want, check the link.

It is quite easy and worth a try... i guess

Okay ,I have now tried it a second time and now xbmc 13.1 works.
I'm absolutely sure it was the first time the version 12 but here I had first used the "system updater" and then switched the language to German, could it be that the System Updater downgrade to xbmc 12?

Sorry but no! Its 13.1...
Double-check whatever your are doing.

Okay ,I have now tried it a second time and now xbmc 13.1 works.
I'm absolutely sure it was the first time the version 12 but here I had first used the "system updater" and then switched the language to German, could it be that the System Updater downgrade to xbmc 12?

Probably....

apt-mark hold xbmc

should fix it.

I have used imagewriter to flash xubuntu (xubuntu-14.04-lts-desktop-armhf_odroidxu_20140604.img) to my SSD, but it doesn't work. I use exactly the same software and equipment that I use with the ubuntu 12 that works properly (ubuntu-12.04.3-lts-desktop-armhf_odroidxu_20140103.img). any idea?
But the worse thing is that I do not know what to do to work with my eMMC (with 12.04 or 14.04!). I try the recovery_emmc but it install android and runs. I have read that then, you can use dd to pass the image to the eMMC, but how? it has 4 partitions and I don't know to which. Also, usually I use dd to pass the .img to the device, but what I have to pass to boot and what to rootfs?

Ups .......... I do not what happend, but I do the same process with imagewriter to the eMMC, and now it works ...... (with the 12.04 I mean). I tried it before and doesn't work with the eMMC. Maybe recovery_eMMC is needed before, and later you can use imagewriter?

Does this means that there is no lubuntu desktop image for the odroid-xu?

If yes, then I would change the first post of this thread, as it is misleading...

Thanks

Thanks, great release.
XBMC is faster than Android versions and playback is smooth. There is only subtitles issue, it's finding subtitles but there is an error when downloading, probably the issue described on the first post of memeka: "due to the code changes to enable FIMC, subtitles are not being displayed"
Is there a chance in near future to have subtitles working?

in XBMC subtitles are working. just install more sources, opensubtitles works best for me.
the subtitles issue was about snappy player.

sorry guys, but the XU image is not working. I used dd to write to an SD card (tried both images for XU), but my XU ite board stays on the red LED.
Is anyone else having this problem or am I doing something wrong?

I did use my existing userdata folder, maybe something related to that. I have 5 sources for subtitles and opensubtitles is default one. It gives a script error when downloading. Maybe uninstalling, reinstalling them helps.

Further tests:
-Installed Libreoffice, working very well.
- Both of the browsers are chopy with youtube.

@memeka
Subtitles are working and they are searching and downloading fast. It was a "custom subtitle folder" setting, carried from Android with userdata folder.

@mkkyah: which libreoffice repo did you use? Anything for 4.2.4 (I use ppa:canonical-libreoffice-builds/archive-staging)
