Hi all,

I am trying to run a vnc server on this image using tightvnc, but I am having trouble getting it to work properly, I am just getting a grey background and a mouse cursor when I connect to the vncserver. I am especially interested in the correct configuration of the xstartup file, but also other config changes that I need to make.

I have read the guide "[GUIDE] Easy remote desktop Xubuntu 13.10 & 14.04 VNC &", but this does not use tightvnc.

Thanks much!

I use x11vnc as server on odroid, works pretty good.
Install x11vnc "sudo apt-get install x11vnc" and create a file .config/autostart/x11vnc.desktop with the following contents:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=X11 VNC
Comment=
Exec=x11vnc -display :0 -forever -geometry 1280x720 -xkb -bg
Terminal=false
Type=Application

The "geometry" entry you must customize your 'needs, but note that a too high resolution slows the vnc connection.
I do not think that the window mode under vnc works therefore you have to edit the .kodi/userdata/guisettings.xml, change from WINDOW to DESKTOP

<videoscreen>
<screenmode default="true">DESKTOP</screenmode>
</videoscreen>

Sorry to bring up the old post. Just wonder if I can do similar rebase for 14.1 ? That is, check out the same branch but rebase to 14.1, will that work ?

currently i am waiting for 14.2 to release a xu image.
i want to release a new image for u3 as well, but not until 14.2 is out of beta.

ps: the new image will be based on ubuntu mate, which i have running already, but i will make the xbmc deb available for download as well. i've got the proper packaging for it too (with deps and everything), fiddling with it right now on the xu.

Great, I'm actually running Max2play with your xbmc.deb and waiting for your new release to make a whole clean install, checking almost everyday here.
Thanks in advance

@DaveA28 (back on Page 5 of __) Many thanks for the resolv.conf fix. Manual DNS entry did work, but your solution is much better.

And of course, many thanks to memeka et. al. for the teriffic image!

Cool, then it can not last so very long because 14.2 RC1 is out already. ;)
You're going to HDMI-CEC improve anything?
HDMI-CEC makes me the most problems, either the connection is lost while scrolling (keep pushed button) or when the TV/Receiver for a longer time was switched off (for about one Day).

I did update HDMI-CEC to latest upstream + added my modifications to use environment variable. The upstream tries to use EDID info, which is not populated on my XU, so it defaults to HDMI1. With my modifications, if EDID fails, it tries reading the environment variable before defaulting to HDMI1.
But protocol issues I'm afraid can only be solved in the kernel module, and each manufacturer have small variations of CEC that lead to issues, so each vendor needs to be debugged and fixed separately ...
From what I've seen, SONY and SAMSUNG TVs (or a subset of them) are ok... LGs lose CEC connection after some time... what TV do you have?

Sorry for delay ;)
I own a Samsung Ue46D6510, in between is a Yamaha RX-V771 receiver but I do not know whether it has any effect or whether the CEC signals are simply passed through.

From OP:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get purge xbmc

gives me:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package 'xbmc' is not installed, so not removed
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 5 not upgraded

XBMC is definitely installed.

I am using Ubuntu 13.10 and simply want to upgrade XBMC - should I wait for Helix?

Yes. But in the OP it talks about:

XBMC 13.2 final update link: http://oph.mdrjr.net/memeka/downloads/x ... _armhf.deb

== Install XBMC 13.2 (final) update with
sudo apt-get purge xbmc
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo dpkg -i ./xbmc_13.2.0-1_armhf.deb
sudo apt-mark hold xbmc

which I took to mean that if I simply wanted to upgrade XBMC ...

If you point me in the direction of the correct thread then I will repeat my question there.

hi guys,

i really did not have the time last month, but it is coming. i will be having some time this weekend to polish up the image.
since you've all been so patient ... would you like the final release to have kodi 14.2 or 15.0 beta?
also, do you want to have all sources included? i can make the image much smaller if there are no sources :)
currently everything has source - kodi, cec, kernel, hybris, custom SDL, etc..

ps: 14.2 is all packaged and working ... 15.0 i haven't patched or try yet..

Hello memmeka

Sounds great. :)
In my opinion it is not necessary the sources to integrate in the image but it would be nice if you could make it available for download.
If you would patch the sources for Kodi 15 and make also available for download then I would test them on occasion times.

Hi Memeka,
I have a problem which maybe can be solved with the new release. I tried other forums (addon forums and max2play), but it may be related with xbmc sources for U3 and how some addons handle some streams.

-- Play a hd stream from youtube or Genesis addons. (better to choose >2000kbs streams to replicate the issue)
-- After a while stop the video, screen freezes or drops back to empty default background and freezes.
-- OR skip a few times 10 min. intervals with up arrow, screen freezes but Kodi is still running. (It's different than buffering)
-- There are no playback issues if you don't touch anything. And there are no problems if you reach the end of the video/stream normally.

You can wait 30 sec. to 10min. (sometimes endless) or restart Kodi.

I have checked this with other addons, I think the issue is only with Youtube and Genesis addons by my system (odroid u3 with Max2play image, all up to date, I believe Max2play last version have mdjr's kodi 14.2beta)
Here is a logfile: http://pastebin.com/5jAjTsde

I have the same issues with Kodi and that ever since i tried a Kodi version... While YouTube on XBMC was working fine, it's having these issues on Kodi.
One of the reasons why my image still uses XBMC rather than Kodi.
Donate to support my work on the ODROID GameStation Turbo Image for U2/U3 XU3/XU4 X2 X C1 as well as many other releases.
Check out the Games and Emulators section to find some of my work or check the files in my repository to find the software i build for ODROIDs.
If you want to add my repository to your image read my HOWTO integrate my repo into your image.

No, I'm afraid 13.2 was same. I had this issue with 13.2 and was hoping it would be fixed with Helix.
I'm sure 13.2 had this issue with Genesis. I don't remember Youtube on 13.2 and last time I have checked to compare the addon was not functional. I think Helix has a new Youtube addon, they must have something common with Genesis now, they both freeze.

For some time the autostart of Kodi no longer working.
I had a sudo apt-get upgrade carried out and from there launched XBMC no longer automatically.
This problem I have with my U2 and U3 and XBMC launched so far with no problem.
Has anyone a hint what I can do with the autostart works again?

Re: [UPDATED 29/08/2014] U2/3 Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Dev Center

since a few days im using Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Dev Center to run Kodi 14.2 as PVR (tvheadend-plugin)
Streaming HD media from dvb-c is working fine (hardware-accelerated)
Streaming SD media (mpeg2) only works with software-Encoding.
=> sadly the fallback from hard- to Software Encoding does not work.
behaviour:
if hardware-acceleration is activated and i start a SD (mpeg2) stream - kodi crashes.
if hardware-accerlations is deactivated an i start the stream - stream works fine.

is there a Workaround/solution?
