* ubuntu package updates
* XBMC 13.2 final (see instructions and download link at the end of the post if you want just to update xbmc)

+ all the great features from the original image listed below

Download: http://oph.mdrjr.net/memeka/images/u3-t ... 014.img.xz

download size = 1.0GB
md5 xz = 2f73ffd20c6b73c68b4dac4f7d17c034

--------------------------------------------------

After the Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Dev Center for Odroid-XU image and the Ezy Wheezy Odroid-U image, I am announcing the Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Dev Center for Odroid U series.

This release took a lot of work, care and attention. Hope you will enjoy it.
If you like this image and want to say thank you with a beer, you can follow this link. Cheers!

Features:

* Ubuntu 14.04 LTS release

* Kernel 3.8.13.18 + custom patches for FIMC
== default HK defconfig
== can be updated with the kernel-update script or from the new odroid-tool

* Mali r4p0 drivers + armsoc driver + patched Xorg server
== Mali libraries are set up using alternatives such that future Mesa updates are safe
== change between Mali and Mesa with: update-alternatives --config arm-linux-gnueabihf_egl_conf (but why would you do that?)

* XBMC 13.1 Gotham (sources at https://github.com/mihailescu2m/xbmc/tree/Gotham-mfc)
== ALSA, PULSE (recommended), SAMBA, NFS, CEC, AIRTUNES+AIRPLAY
== AC3/DTS 5.1ch audio passthrough is working with a small USB to SPDIF converter: http://www.hardkernel.com/main/products ... 0081048224
== known issues:
- crashes on exit (same issue as Frodo before)

* libcec
== works with any HDMI port, configurable using the CEC_HDMI_PORT environment variable in /etc/environment (currently is set to HDMI-2, change it to your own )
== XBMC has many options in System -> Input Devices -> Peripherals -> CEC Adapter, including a setting for HDMI port (check these settings if CEC_HDMI_PORT is correct and CEC is still not working in XBMC)

* libshairport
== should work very well with iOS<7 devices, iOS7 you need to restart Bluetooth+Wifi to see the odroid (airplaying music, video and images works for me on iOS7)

* LXDE + lightdm and basic apps (file manager, system monitor, archiver, text editor, NetworkManager, ssh server, etc.)
== custom theming
== Chromium browser
== metacity as default wm for odroid user - modify ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/desktop.conf for openbox (openbox is slower than metacity!)

* Deadbeef Audio Player
== works well with Pulse Audio

!!! Gstreamer with hw accelerated video playback MFC+FIMC included!
updated Gstreamer to 1.4.0 and snappy player download link: viewtopic.php?f=77&t=5960
* Snappy video player
== largest video I tested that was working well in fullscreen was a 8GB mkv
== known issues:
- if double-clicking on a file is not working, try opening Snappy from menu, then drag'n'drop the file on the video player
- when you go from fullscreen to window, the desktop might become black. Just move a window around to refresh the image, or quit Snappy when in fullscreen by pressing ESC to refresh the desktop.

* Oracle java 1.8 for armhf (set up using alternatives)

* Development packages installed (including for XBMC, Gstreamer, etc..)
== XBMC source: https://github.com/mdrjr/xbmc branch Gotham-Odroid-Exynos
== other sources will be made available soon

* Fits on a 4GB sd-card!

*** installing pepperflash guide: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=5013
*** to autologin, create the file /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf containing the user you want to autologin (e.g. odroid):
Code: Select all
[SeatDefaults]
autologin-user=odroid

*** to auto-start XBMC, edit the file ~/.config/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart and add a new line containing "@xbmc"
*** xbmc, libcec, libshairport, gstreamer, snappy, deadbeef have been installed from debs such that they are easy to remove or update with apt
*** odroid packages have been marked for hold such that apt-get upgrade is safe
*** this image uses device path (/dev/mmcblk0pX) instead of UUID to mount partitions. This means that it will not boot correctly if you have both eMMC and sd-card installed. If you want to use UUID, then you need to find the UUID (e.g. sudo blkid /dev/mmcblk0p2) and: 1) update /etc/fstab, 2) modify /boot/boot.txt and regenerate /boot/boot.scr. Complete HOWTO here: viewtopic.php?f=52&t=5054 or here viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4823&start=220#p40695
*** according to @mdrjr, kernel-update script is now working with this image.

XBMC 13.2 final update link: http://oph.mdrjr.net/memeka/downloads/x ... _armhf.deb

== Install XBMC 13.2 (final) update with
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get purge xbmc
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo dpkg -i ./xbmc_13.2.0-1_armhf.deb
sudo apt-mark hold xbmc

--------------------------------------------------

As usual, there are many ppl to thank for all of this, especially to: mdrjr, ovversun, hgblob, dsd, and stormer (#gstreamer).

All my builds have ALSA support. The problem now would be that ALSA takes over and no desktop app will have sound. So it's actually preferable to have Pulse.

Is it possible to change this in the advanced settings.xml file?

No, you need to have ALSA support compiled in.

If I'm not mistaken opencv required openCL which is not available on the U3. But really, I don't use opencv so no idea if it will work.

I use fstab to mount my NFS drive. Now you will find your files in the directory structure of the root file system. The nie of this construction is that you can play with the block size of the protocol.

Could it be seeded on a bittorrent instead? not sure that would really help...

However I suggest not to do that, unity is not accelerated and will be very slow... if it will work at all

Thanks for the image.

Noticed on the demo video that you had a sony bravia, does CEC work for you? I can't seem to get it working with any image.

The only time CEC worked was when I compiled https://github.com/vamanea/libcec/tree/exynos. Using cec-client it would randomly work/not work

Did you need to set anything up on the TV? My tv is http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-55ex ... hp_en_TH_i

I noticed 3D OpenGL ES rendering is slower (mainly one game I tried: Quake 3 ARM port). I get about 9 FPS compared to 60 FPS before with the other lubuntu XBMC 13.10 distribution. Is it only me? (or maybe this is expected)
Other than that, XBMC and video playback seems very smooth.

Thanks for the image.

Yes CEC is working flawlessly on my Bravia. Make sure you edit /etc/environment and set CEC_HDMI_PORT (or delete the line if you are using HDMI-1); also go into XBMC's settings for CEC (see OP for details). Also make sure you enter the TV menu and enable BRAVIA SYNC (I have a SYNC MENU button on my remote). Make sure you enable BRAVIA SYNC (sony's name for CEC) and select the HDMI device there...

I am using the same drivers. If you benchmark using es2gears and glmark2_es2 you will see you get the same results or better as the Lubuntu 13.10 image (I overclocked the GPU to 640Mhz). The only difference is that the Xorg server was updated on 14.04.
EDIT: although I have noticed that if you're using EGL through SDL, it is slower than if you initialize it through X11... that's why I had to compile XBMC with --disable-sdl otherwise the performance was bad. I am not sure why this happens.

Thank you for your image! It is really great! I appreciate your work!

But there is one thing that would make the image even more awesome! In your eazy wheezy image, the screen refresh rate was automatically adjusted to match to the files fps (when you activate it in the xbmc video settings). This makes the video playback on 24p movies absolutely smooth. Unfortunately, with the trusty dev image, the framerate stays at 60hz and i have to adjust it manually with "xrandr -r 24". Is there any way to get auto adjust work on the trusty dev center ?

But there is one thing that would make the image even more awesome! In your eazy wheezy image, the screen refresh rate was automatically adjusted to match to the files fps (when you activate it in the xbmc video settings). This makes the video playback on 24p movies absolutely smooth. Unfortunately, with the trusty dev image, the framerate stays at 60hz and i have to adjust it manually with "xrandr -r 24". Is there any way to get auto adjust work on the trusty dev center ?

I could not get XBMC to compile with XRANDR support :( If I can do that in the future, I will post the .deb...
Did you try looking the advanced XBMC options in the Video settings menu? Maybe there is something there that will fix this. Also, do you have an example video I can use to test?

EDIT: there is an option in SETTINGS -> VIDEO -> PLAYBACK -> Adjust display refresh rate to match video .... does that work for you?

it does work with ezy wheezy, but not with trusty dev :-(

unfortunately not. It should be reproducible with every 24p video. I used a episode of Hell on Wheels :-)

Weird, all my videos play fine - and 99% I think are at 24 frames... anyone else experiences this?

can you try booting without any USB attachements (except mouse, keyboard and wifi) ?
Looks to me it might be because of the external HDD...

seems like there is an error with the filesystem....
* do you have both SD and eMMC connected? because only one of them will work - so take out the other one when booting...
* if not, check MD5 of the file, if it's OK reflash if not redownload... I have put the md5 for both archive and .img file...

I can't connect to the internet.......

It can open the web page of my Router.
(to me http://192.168.0.1)
But it can't open any other sites. Like "google.com".
(I think that's not my Router's problem. My other computers on same router can open google.)

I don't understand how and why this situation happened.
Becaus of this situation I even can't use "apt-get". :(

Maybe it's a DNS issue ?

Can you run "ping 8.8.8.8" ? If it is working, then modify /etc/resolv.conf and add first line "nameserver 8.8.8.8"

Having connected via SSH, I was not able to connect to anything behind my router.

Editing /etc/resolv.conv solved the problem. I replaced what seemed to be your router's IP with the one of my own.

Thank you very much for the image. I am about to push the hw-accelerated videoplayer to the maximum :)

Great! the video player is not as good as XBMC, but still better than software decoding :)

it's on the OP: user odroid, password odroid. Root password is also odroid, but Ubuntu does not allow you to ssh as root - you need to modify /etc/ssh/sshd_config if you want that.
