Ubuntu MATE 16.04.7 and X2Go Server

Post by Mandolino »

Hello everyone,

It's my first post on the forum !

I have a big issue for installing X2Go Server on a Odroid-U3 running Ubuntu MATE 16.04.7 and I'm searching for a workaround.

To install X2Go Server, I have running the following commands:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install x2goserver
But there is an issue with a dependency (xserver-x2gokdrive) that can't be installed because the package isn't available:

Code: Select all

odroid@odroid:~$ sudo apt-get install x2goserver
[sudo] password for odroid:

Any idea will be welcome !

Just for reference, I have found a solution by following the instructions here:

https://github.com/kapolos/armhf-x2go

At the end of the process, you can execute the following commands for Ubuntu MATE:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install x2gomatebindings

Frankly, it's my third and probably last post on this forum, posting here was just a waste of time. :(

Regards

I bumped the post hoping someone would have an idea to help but unfortunately it seems no one did.

Thanks for coming back and posting the solution.

Ubuntu 16.04 has no longer any support, therefore trying to do anything "new" with an out of date image, was probably a bad idea to begin with.
There are other more modern images available with working software repositories which probably would have worked better.

Overall I tried X2Go for a while where it worked fine, but I always go back to xpra for my needs nowadays either forwarding a single application or the entire desktop when needed, even via SSH.

Hello,

The team behind the X2Go project has release a new build of the packages (2023-08-18) that fix the issue with the xserver-x2gokdrive dependency on Ubuntu 16.04 AND 18.04.
From now, X2Go Server can be installed with the following commands :

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install x2goserver x2gomatebindings
