Manage two wifi card

Unread post by FedericoCoppola » Tue Jun 26, 2018 6:36 pm

Hello,
I need an help about the management of two wifi card connected to my Odroid.
We are using one wlan card (wlan0) as client wifi and we have add another wlan card (wlan1) that it will be an AP.
The wlan0 is configured using wpa_supplicant to connect automatically to our wifi network.
The AP create a new wifi network that we can use just to connect to this odroid and manage it in emergency situations.
Is it possible?
Can there be inconveniences or software conflits?
Thanks
Federico

No, it should be fine. Just follow regular guides to set one as client and the other as AP. You can even connect from one wifi to the other :)

And if you plan to use some power(ful) hungry device as such :D Image consider external powering.

Thanks for your support!
So I will install and configure wpa_supplicant for wlan0 (client mode) and hostapd for wlan1 (AP mode).
wpa_supplicant: https://www.linuxbabe.com/command-line/ ... supplicant
hostapd: https://www.shellvoide.com/wifi/setup-w ... asq-linux/

Depending on what wifi chips you use you may need to consult odroid wiki for the supplicant steps

Can the change settings?

I know that they are two Dlink WIFI chips and using Ubuntu Mate there aren't particular problem about driver.
I know that Ubuntu Mate identify them without problem.

For AP mode you generally need a special driver which might depend on wifi chipset vendor.
