UART Connector on Board . Pin Definitions

Post by manishjg »

Hi,

I have a USB to 4 pin cable for UART. Which has 4 wires. GND/RX/TX/Power. Now I need to know the position of the pins on the board UART connector
Where can i find board schematic?

I am using this cable, http://www.newark.com/adafruit-industri ... dp/44W3509

Your UART cable uses 3.3 volt signals. Odroid uses 1.8V. You will burn your odroid.

What is the cable which everyone is using, any suggestions?

I am not able to find any electrical specifications / schematics, 1.8v is mentioned in which document/page?

here it's mentioned.https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/usb-uart-module-kit/
If you want to use yours cable, you need a level shifter\converter from 3.3v to 1.8v

It is also mentioned in a FAQ:
http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/ ... &tab_idx=3
You can use raspberry pi if you have one:
http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f ... ence#p9413

Or you can search for UART converter which has reference voltage pin. Than you can take 1.8 volt from odroid board connector.

Ok, I missed that small part :( :(
I do have a raspberry pi. As suggested in the raspberry pi IO pins to Odroid UART that I need to use a level shifter (3.3V to 1.8V) would this https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8745 level shifter work with ODROID? I think if this works I can use the cable I have with this level shifter to connected to ODRIOD.
I could find one which I can get locally (http://www.rhydolabz.com/index.php?main ... ts_id=1045).

Both have a text which says "This level converter also works with 2.8V and 1.8V devices" so would they work from 3.3V to 1.8V.

Hello

I'm trying to troubleshoot HC2 that work for many years.

I bought following 1.8/3.3/5V adapter with a switch https://www.amazon.co.uk/Converter-Adap ... B08TX3KTP1 based on FT232RL.

Would I be able to connect it to HC2's UART?

I connect using this instruction https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/devel ... _connector
HC2 GND to GND on adapter,
HC2 TXD to RX on adapter,
HC2 RXD to TX on adapter,
When I connect HC2 VCC to 1.8 VCC on adapter and connect power supply, board doesn't turn on , no red led on.
I also connected TXD to TX and RXD to RX.

I run
screen/dev/ttyUSB0 115200

but no single sign shows when booted from sdcard, even without VCC connected(red led on, blue led blinks).

What I'm doing wrong?

Thanks
