@voodik, I'm not very experienced with android build process, I want to build everything with debugging symbols (debug version of build).
As I understand your build.sh sets everything up automatically, where can I change and what to make it build debug version?

try this.
change in device/hardkernel/odroidxu/vendorsetup.sh to

Code: Select all

add_lunch_combo cm_odroidxu-eng
after that from source root folder launch

Code: Select all

. build/envsetup.sh
lunch cm_odroidxu-eng
make -j4

thanks, I already started to dig it further and found the options I seek for. Although it's taking insane amount of effort, disk space and CPU time to compile all that stuff...

Holy cow?!?! 32GB for compiling - never would have guessed...I understood about 3% of all of the wayland offshoot conversation - just waiting on an update for the U3 image and maybe some info on the new XU3!!

Is it 64-bit compatible like the supposed new Exynos 5443 , and if so - what real world benefits will we be seeing since this isn't usually battery powered?

perun wrote:Hi Guys,
i have a suggestion for this android build/version:

To get write access to e.g. an external hard disk for all apps (especial those how do not request root access) a change in the file
"/system/etc/permissions/platform.xml" can be done with adding the tag "<group gid="media_rw" />" to the "android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" definitions.
So "platform.xml" should look something like this:

Code: Select all

<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >
    <group gid="sdcard_r" />
    <group gid="sdcard_rw" />
    <group gid="media_rw" />
</permission>
Should this be added permently to this version? Any thoughts?
I just updated to the 08/09/14 and it seems you forgot to include this one! (the changelog seems to indicate this was done, but my platform.xml was missing media_rw). I noticed that BT Sync couldn't write to external USB folders, manually edited platform.xml and worked perfectly.
If it was deliberately not added, I too vote for including it in the build.

This rom works much better than the stock firmware, thank you Voodik for the great work.

Hi

Thanks voodik for great rom. I'm taking chance because I have no idea...maybe you or someone else might be able to help.

I'm having an issue with controller use on some games. I use legit PS3 controller with six axis app. It works great with this ROM. ...but some games especially modern combat 5, its like the controller doesn't exist. I have cyanogenmod on my Galaxy S3 too and the controller works fine there.

Has anyone else tried playing Modern Combat 5 with sixaxis using this rom?

I don't know if there is something in the HID drivers in this ROM that isn't the same as what's on the cm11 S3 rom...

If someone knows how to fix this it would be great. I'm a java developer so I'm useless to try and figure this out....

Thanks for anyone who can help...

Today started netflix in germany. I tried it with voodik's CM11 rom and it is working.
But at the moment it is not usable because of a lot of flickering in the right top corner.
Has anybody the same problem?

I use Netflix all the time, there's only a minor flicker in the upper portion of the screen when it goes fullscreen (not specific to this app, it happens in many others), but it only lasts a second or so, and works flawlessly after that.
This is the Netflix app from the Play Store in the US, not sure if the german version is different.

Could anyone help me with my eGalax Resistive Touch Screen? I already got it working on almost the complete Screen, but some areas(~4mm on every side) are not working. I already tried out to edit some things, but it doesnt work. The device doesn't even get recognized as a touch input device, but as a USB mouse.
I hope you can help me out with this.
Thanks in advance

Quick question regarding the XU and this build, I tried to switch over from Dalvik to ART and was greeted by just a black screen when rebooting... this is the first time I tried this on the XU though.
Let it sit for a few hours, nothing. Is it not supported? I don't really mind if it doesn't work... just curious :P

Hi, thanks for awesome job.
One question, I have XU + 10,1 LCD kit + Expansion board with light sensor. How can I utilize display auto brightness function?

voodik,

I checked out your git repo and built it. I had to fix a few items in the cm code -- I mainly cut out some of the access point code which had been just updated in the cm main branch.

It didn't take too long. I used the gapps in robroy's epicloot, see. http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=2463. He credits abn for the installer.

I still have frame drops on HD videos in DishAnywhere. crackle and Hulu native are OK with SD movies. CPUs are set for performance but not over clocked.

I should say ... for my U3+ (not XU).

I have a problem. I try to update to CM-11 from 4.4.2 alpha 2.5.
Everytime I download the update, md5 match, extract and press restart for update. It just shuts down the Odroid. Red led is solid.
If I unplug and replug odroid it won't update. It just sits in 4.4.2.

Can I restart for update manually via ADB or something?

As I don't see any resolution to this problem is it possible to dd these update files over ADB? (I don't have USB uart kit)

In U2 you can flash the zImage, but can someone provide steps to flash userdata.bin system.bin cache.bin files?

Valexi,

You can download the update.zip to your computer and extract the file.

Connect a microUSB cable from your computer to the ODROID-XU.
You don't need the UART kit for this. The microUSB port is the third port from the right on the top of this picture:

Image

While connected to the powered on ODROID-XU, open a command prompt/terminal from your computer and issue the following command:

adb reboot fastboot (This instructs the XU to reboot into fastboot mode so you can flash the files.)

Once the XU reboots and has a flashing green LED, you can follow the four fastboot flash commands from Voodik's post on the first page.

Make sure you are in the directory you extracted the update.zip to or that you are using the full path to the files.
voodik wrote: ...

fastboot flash kernel zImage
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img

then reboot.
To reboot, you can use the following command from your computer:

fastboot reboot

Hope that helps.

Voodik,

Thanks for your continued support of the XU!

I tried out the Lollipop alpha and it looks very promising!

Can't wait for another release!

Is there any way for me to get the kernel source so I can recompile it with some changes?

P.S. I tried USB Audio and it was plug and play!!!

Thanks RockenZ! I didn't realize that there was a MicroUSB port in this device, because it looked so weird! :D

I'm still struggling in installing this. I downloaded latest: android-4.4.2-alpha-2.5-emmc_self_installer-odroid-xu-20140711.img and flashed it to my EMMC.
Then booted into Android. Enabled WiFi and used Odroid Updater to download: http://oph.mdrjr.net/voodik/ODROID-XU/F ... update.zip
When I click restart for update it restarts and starts upgrading (led is flashing green and blue). Then it reboots and I see red led and blinking blue led. Then it shuts down and only solid red led.

When I re-plug the device I get again red led and blinking blue led. Then it shuts down and only solid red led. -> Not working...

I downloaded again android-4.4.2-alpha-2.5-emmc_self_installer-odroid-xu-20140711.img and flashed it to my EMMC. -> Android working 4.4.2.
Then I rebooted to fastboot and flashed the files manually. When done I did "fastboot reboot" I get again red led and blinking blue led. Then it shuts down and only solid red led. -> Not working...

I have no idea why it doesn't install correctly. I used to have only microsd card with this device and now I upgraded to EMMC and I can't get it installed. When I dip the switch back to microsd and plug in the old microsd card I can use the voodik's CM-11.

I haven't yet, but I'll try... Funniest thing is that I have a perfectly working sdcard with CM-11 20140922.
I booted up my PC with Ubuntu 14.10 and DD'd (sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sdc) entire disk from sdcard to EMMC. It didn't work out, but the disk was exact copy of this working sdcard, but with EMMC it won't boot.

Well, maybe I'll just stick with the factory image as it seems to work ok...

That's strange, I have been using EMMC since I got my ODROID without any issues.

I am currently running the latest CM11 from 9/22.

Have you double checked that both switches are set correctly for EMMC?

I know you mentioned you flipped them, but might be worth double checking.

You're able to run the stock image from EMMC without any issues?

There is an option in the updater app to clear environment I think.

Have you tried setting that when updating?

Yes, I double checked the switches. And they should be OK as the factory image boots from EMMC.

What version is your EMMC? I have the latest v0.3 EMMC 5.0. Could it be the issue?

I tried to set clear userdata and format fat when updating. I downloaded older Alpha 2.4 and tried to update it, but that didn't work out either.

Yes. Stock image works from EMMC flawlessly. And if I dip switches to SDcard I can run CM11 from 9/22 from SD card for sure.

I have EMMC 4, as 5 was not available when I bought my ODROID.

This shouldn't matter since you are able to run the stock image, but try unplugging all of your usb devices and starting CM11 from EMMC.

The only time I have had your problem is usb/power issues causing the ODROID to shut down abruptly.

Is anyone else running CM11 with EMMC 5?

Also, have you tried one of the older CM builds?

Yes, I have tried it without USB devices. I had the unit on the table, when I flashed image from fastboot.

I don't think it's USB/power issue, because I can see that it installs (led flashes amber/green/blue) and every time the install is complete and device reboots; I get red led, then blue led and "heartbeat" for awhile and then it shuts down.

I tried older CM builds. At least 07-12-2014 and 07-23-2014.

Only thing I can think of is the problem with EMMC5? I can see the Odroid BSP changelog that they have updated some drivers for EMMC.

What's new from previous Alpha 2.3
1. eMMC device driver is updated for the eMMC 5.0 backward compatibility.
Maybe voodik hasn't pulled these changes to his repo?

Any update on 5.0? I kept checking Get the latest version, and only kept seeing 12/10. Didn't think to check this site!!

Hi,

Anyone knows status of BLE(Bluetooth Low Energy) support for CM-11? If it's not, do we have any other version to support BLE?

Thanks,
David

Hi, I'm solapower, thank you for your effort on CM-11 porting.

I want to build this CM-11 android source for my development on odroid-xu device.

When I checkout android CM-11 source from your git repository by using repo sync (the way you already posted).
I got an error with the following message:
Fetching project platform/prebuilts/gcc/linux-x86/host/x86_64-linux-glibc2.7-4.6
Fetching project CyanogenMod/android_external_jack
error: Cannot fetch android_bionic
Fetching project CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_Calendar
Fetching projects: 84% (404/480)
error: Exited sync due to fetch errors
Is there anybody who has same problem with me?
Or can help me to resolve this error?

Hi solapower,
Unfortunately CM-11 branch is no longer maintained. I switched to cm-12.1 branch.

Thank you for information, voodik.
Then, could you tell me commit hash value(or revision) of most recent stable version of CM-11 branch?
(In other words, I want to find most recent version of the branch that USB bluetooth is available.)

Why you need CM-11 ? cm-12.1 is using same USB Bluetooth hal (i ported it from cm-11). Unfortunately you can't build cm-11 because i deleted some repos which included in manifest.

Thank you for your reply.

I wanted to use CM-11, because it wasn't sure that the software that I've developed will work well on higher version of Android than CM-11.
But I decided to try to use CM-12.1 and I'm checking out CM-12.1 branch: )
Thank you for your support!

P.S: And if it's OK, I want to ask you why you've been supporting for odroid devices? just as a personal pleasure or as a main job?
(You don't have to answer if you mind)
