Because we can't buy any eMMC 5.0 chip even engineering sample, we can't test the eMMC 5.0 feature.

As per our test, our eMMC could boot with On-On as well as On-Off configuration.

UHS-1 card is working on XU now.

The Android BSP can be built/installed with below instruction.
http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:odroid-xu

This totally new WiKi will be opened within couple of days.
If you have any issue when you build the Android BSP and Kernel, please let me know to fix the WiKi.

We already enabled OpenGL ES as well as OpenCL EP on Android.

But we must do tons of works for Linux/X11.

Tried to compile the new android tree.
Although the previous (09-09-2013) does compile and finish ok,
the new one (09-23-2013) looks broken and reports a problem in ethernet configuration

Code: Select all

target R.java/Manifest.java: SettingsProvider (out/target/common/obj/APPS/SettingsProvider_intermediates/src/R.stamp)
device/hardkernel/odroidxu/overlay/frameworks/base/packages/SettingsProvider/res/values/defaults.xml:26: error: Resource at def_ethernet_on appears in overlay but not in the base package; use <add-resource> to add.
make: *** [out/target/common/obj/APPS/SettingsProvider_intermediates/src/R.stamp] Error 1
can you please fix that?

The file is quite large and trying to download it for about a day but connection keeps reset and restart. Eventually it will get downloaded but it will take significant time (had the same issues with the previous BSP files of 09-09-2013)

Is there any git repository from which we can get it ?

Ok,
Finally managed tο download it and this time at least it does compile OK

Please conside placing it in github, its very dificult to download a 2 to 3 GB file through the provided ftp which obviously is having about 100KBps bandwidth allocation throtling per session.
After all, the changes are a few KBytes, we could have had tηεμ in a matter of seconds if you had it on the free github like everybody else does.
You do have used github for other parts so please consider do it for that too.

Regards,
Christos

P.S.
Just to add, tested the 0.4 and it is rectifying the freeze issue I mentioned some time back http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=2186
so no more random freeze anymore when using the hdmi to vga adaptor, nice :-)

Now XU will not remember ethernet settings on reboot. Each time I boot I have to go to settings and turn on ethernet. Very tedious. Why would it forget the settings?

If you update your kernel (to 10-04-2013) it will not forget the settings.

I just tried it.
Unfortunately CONFIG_HID_APPLE is not quite stable. :(
My mouse locks up after a short time. I use the Apple Magic Mouse (Bluetooth). But it's great to scroll down to with the mouse. :P
Good work - I hope it runs stable soon.

The problem was that I still use a USB mouse, in addition to the Apple Magic Mouse. Since the driver crashes.

Another problems is the zoom in with the Apple Magic Mouse. The center click does not work properly.

My apple keyboard (also CONFIG_APPLE_HID) is not working at all.
I'm using the Pocket Rocket image (since my install of the recovery image somehow failed), which should have every update as of 20 Oct.
In my (September) kernel (compiled for linux) the keyboard was running fine.
Since I got my XU, I never got Android working with my keyboard :(

I will try having a better look this weekend, I did not actually check if the module is there or if it is loaded... (is it compiled in the kernel or module?) :d

This does only recover Android to your stock Android BSP Alpha 2.0 release?
My partition table will be untouched?

Could you please upload the latest BSP files, so to be in sync with the latest recovery image?

Thanks.

There is something wrong there, at least I do not understand what is happening, the kernel sources package is different from other times, its kernel.gz having only a 'kernel' file in it, the other times it was a kernel.tgz with the source files in a folder.
Can you tell me how to use the new thing or is it an error?

tar xvfz kernel.gz
and you can get the full source code of kernel.
If it doesn't work, you need to check the md5sum value first.

ok,
As I see you fixed it and now there is the correct .tgz file (containing the properly named kernel.tar)

I'll download the new ones and try to build everything and see if all are alright.

thanks,
Christos

odroid/hardkernel:
you should upload the app sources to your github account ;-)
so other persons can contribute to the project (adding dvi vout mode for example)
Aswell wouldnt it be better to set some booleans to the hardware framework/drivers and read them while starting?
so the connection will be identified automatically

dvi vout is already implemented.

We checked the github thing but because we don't have indivual projects repo (as android is)
it would be a 2gb repo with a single commit.. not good.
So we'll keep that way

A couple newbie-ish questions regarding images and eMMC...
odroid wrote:ODROID-XU/XU+E/Lite Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean(JB) Alpha 2.4 Image & BSP Release.
In the above quote (taken from the first post in this thread), what does BSP mean?
odroid wrote:Try the latest Ver 0.5
Updated Android OS ver 0.5 is here.
[...]
What's new from 0.4.
- Supports XU-Lite
- Asix USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet driver is improved. (Stably working now)
- Add 48Khz support in the ALSA driver
- On/Off state of Ethernet is saved/recalled.
- Fix the screen color(yellowish) issue. http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 363#p18874
- Add feature CONFIG_USB_DEVICEFS in the kernel for Kinect/Xtion sensors. Add a node for Kinect in uevnet.odroidxu.rc
- Update for IO Expansion board (Kernel and init.rc)
What is this Recovery 0.5 image? How is it different from the Android 4.2.2 recovery/installation image? Do the two images complement each other/should they be installed together? ...In short, do I need this?
(I just got a brandnew XU-Lite and after playing a bit with it, I flashed the Android alpha 2.3 image to it with the intention of using the ODROID Updater to update it to 2.4 once it's up and running.)

About the eMMC card (I have the 8GB one), there appear to be 4 different partitions on it. (Only one was reflashed when I used the Win32DiskImager tool to put Android alpha 2.3 on the card.) What is the purpose of the other three?
I also remember reading somewhere on these forums that the eMMC-to-microSD adapter doesn't allow full access to the entire eMMC storage but that a few hundred MB are hidden. Why, and what's there?

Hope I'm not asking too many questions - really curious is all. :)

BSP = Board Support Package (Sources for that specific release)

When flashing a regular image doesn't fixes a non-booting board, the recovery image is the one to make it alive again.

Android uses 4 partition schema. System, userdata, cache and "data"

eMMC bootloaders are kept on a 4mbyte spare memory on the chip :)
The recovery image is able to recovery those 4mbytes to stock again.

Ahaaaaa...indeed, I'm familiar with the Android partition scheme (I also own a Google Nexus 7 (2012) which helped me learn all the basics).
So the "regular" Android image just overwrites the "system" partition, leaving the rest untouched...Cool!

TY for the quick reply...loving the XU Lite so far :-D

The update via the Odroid-XU app takes too long for the # of XUs I have. If I download the update.zip file on the pc, where can I place it on the emmc and have it reboot to update? Root of sdcard partition?

Enter this mirrored URL(in the US) on the Update app.
http://www.odroid.in/mirror/dn.odroid.c ... update.zip

Or
Copy the update.zip & update.zip.md5sum file into /sdcard/ and run the ODROID Updater app.
