Mac Addict New to this ODROID World

Unread postby StephaniePS » Tue Jan 09, 2018 12:00 pm

Hello everyone.

I started out years ago using Tandy Computers a TRS80, moving up to Commador Vic 20, Commador 64’s, 128’s. Then on to Amiga’s, Microsoft PC’s, and finally the Apple Mac line of computers. I presently use an iMac 27”, a MacBook Pro, 2 Mac Mini’s, iPad Pro, iPhone X, Apple Watch 3. So yes I’m a Mac addict.

While browsing the web I came across an article on SBCs and it peaked my interest. The article also listed what they thought were the top 5 SBCs, with the ODROID XU4 being the top board. I read more about the XU4 and what can be done with it soooooo I’ve ordered th XU4, and the accessories I needed to get started.

Unfortunately the XU4 is on backorder so I’ll be reading all I can about the ODROID world while I patiently wait for it’s arrival, and I’ll probably have a lot of questions.

Thanks for reading this

Stephanie

Well that was a steep decline regarding your equipment ;-)
Just kidding

Welcome Aboard I know it's hard to keep patient and wait for the delivery.
Do you also order the power supply?

If not this is the time to look for a good one. XU4 needs a good and stable supply. If you plan several hdd/ssd you could easily need a 6A or more. After boot the xu4 is a power saver, but for boot the 4A is crucial.

Also take your time to read into the to be used linux/android image. Consider also the non official OS images.

Thanks for the advice Schnitzelbrain. I did order a power supply, the 4Amp version from ameriDroid. I do plan on an ssd in the future once I’ve gotten used to the board, Ubuntu and more importantly the CLI :)
