@mmiszczuk
You needed to edit /etc/chromium-browser/default file as explained in the first post to avoid the "AW Snap" error.

When I add in /etc/chromium-browser/default file
Code: Select all
CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--disable-namespace-sandbox"

Chromium start, freeze and disappear, sometimes not show GUI.

Post the output when you run "chromium-browser" on the command line.

I used this script to install.
Are you do apt-get install update && apt-get install upgrade && apt-get install dist-upgrade? It was install >600 updates.
I update system, restart and use script.
If i don't add
CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--disable-namespace-sandbox"
chromium starts but doesn't show web pages. When add I have error. :|

You're saying, when you change the flag, you get the error from your screenshot on Sun Apr 24, 2016 1:56 pm?

Yes.
At first I update system, next I try install with script. When finished I run chromium without flag - no internet, when I add flag show me this error.
Look that process is not finish I don't have a cursor -> I must kill by Ctrl+C

If I were you, I'd completely remove Chromium from the system and then rerun my script.

Been getting this a lot on my Odroid-XU4. Can't get on the web with Chrome. It looks like it starts but just closes right away.

Looking on here seen can start it on the command line and then it errors like this screen shot:

Chrom don't start XU4 mate.jpg

It's mainly a stock install too. Got it on a SD card.

Did the update chrome command like it said in a post here and here is how that looks:

Code: Select all
login as: root
root@192.168.2.195's password:
Welcome to Ubuntu 15.10 (GNU/Linux 3.10.96-82 armv7l)

 * Documentation:  https://help.ubuntu.com/

0 packages can be updated.
0 updates are security updates.

New release '16.04 LTS' available.
Run 'do-release-upgrade' to upgrade to it.

You have mail.
Last login: Sun May 15 13:14:43 2016 from 192.168.2.81
root@odroid-xu4-3:~# apt-get update chromium-browser
E: The update command takes no arguments
root@odroid-xu4-3:~# uname -a
Linux odroid-xu4-3 3.10.96-82 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Apr 11 23:29:39 BRT 2016 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux
root@odroid-xu4-3:~#

It says can do a "do-release-upgrade" can I do that on this or will it mess it up?

Don't try the "do-release-upgrade" yet. We will make 16.04 image within a few weeks.

You needed to use older version of Chromium as described in the opening post in this thread.

Arg! Looks like storms ahead Mate. No surfing the web again today! Finding course of action listed making my system worse, and I see no chance of it getting better without punting. Chromium, Midori, or FireFix are not working.

This good image has given way to a new system state where BrokenCount>0, update-manager broken, and I got half a dozen unresolved dependencies, including libasound2:armhf, that are not fixed by any or the remedies listed in this article including apt-get -f install or the OS suggested --fix-missing.

The apt-get -f install reports 404 Not Found for http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/po ... _armhf.deb ...

Yes, I do believe the script listed here could help my Ubuntu 16.04 on my Pi3. The Pi3 is on the official Ubuntu 16.04 release not beta. From the February date in the release notes it appears that this is a beta release. The general Ubuntu 16.04 release was made in late April. So what the difference? Can we get the full version when you make the next image?

I have read the entire thread. It appears that Sandbox entry in the default config repeatedly missed. Those instructions are not so clear. I imagine some struggling with the permissions of that folder, and then not sure where to add the line when the file references in the directory don't match the file references in the instructions.

Will let you know what works for me, when surfs up!

Thx for your support.

This latest 64bit Chromium(custom build) worked on C2 Ubuntu.
viewtopic.php?f=136&t=21215
If your Ubuntu is 64bit, try it.

Our official 16.04 image will be released in 24 hours with the enabled x11 GPU driver and 64bit Chromium.

Edit.
It was released.

Everything was going fine with my new XU4 which I've only had a few days. I was running the system that shipped with it. A lot of surfing, exploring, etc. Plus reading in these forums. At some point I decided to accept the updates which were being offered. Big mistake! All of a sudden I had a Chromium browser which would flash on for 1-2 seconds then go away.

I saw in these forums that work was underway on a fix as well as a new XU4 16.04 image release. I appreciate all the hard work people are doing but in my case I don't feel I need to be on the bleeding edge. I simply wanted a working device like I had when it arrived a few days ago.

Many/most of the Chromium fixes being proposed involved some fancy terminal work, at least from my perspective. I'm a relative linux noob compared to high-powered folks I see on this forum and I knew how much trouble I could get into trying to crawl down some of these rabbit holes. A better choice seemed to be if I could "start over" and have my XU4 back the way it was when I received it a few days ago. I only had one eMMC which came with the XU4 plus some additional SD cards. So, I downloaded an Ubuntu 15.04 release from Hardkernel's site. This wasn't the latest & greatest Ubuntu but I was proceeding cautiously at this point.

The next step was to flash this release onto storage. The XU4 can boot from either SD card or eMMC. I decided to try an SD card first & see if I could be successful with that. My desktop "daily driver" is a Mac running OSX. I've come up through the ranks with small Single Board Computers going back to the Arduino & BeagleBone so I was familiar with preparing SD cards. The downloaded XU4 Linux release was an .img file over 4 GB. On the Mac I first used an app named SDFormatter, then an app called Pi Filler to write the file onto SD. I used a USB SD card reader from Plugable after trying the Transcend adapter from Hardkernel. When the card was ready I plugged it into the XU4, removed the eMMC module & moved the little slide switch to the SD position. The board booted up immediately! The eMMC module from Hardkernel comes with a little adapter that allows it to be plugged into a micro SD card slot. Using the same process on my Mac I installed the 15.04 release on the eMMC, plugged it back into the XU4, removed the micro SD card and put the slide switch in the eMMC position. Bingo, it booted again!

I wanted to share this because I know I'm not the only person who is uncomfortable at a linux terminal and maybe some folks weren't aware of apps on Mac OSX which can be helpful with microcomputers like the XU4.

Hello NixieToob,

We are aware of those issues with Chromium and we are working to provide a fix once for all.

The problem is that chromium package comes from Canonical as part of Ubuntu itself not from us (hardkernel).
We'll start introducing our own chromium packages with newer versions and tested before release.

SURF's UP!
Following instructions at http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=136&t=21215 to remove previous Chrome and install Chromium dev version 52.0.2729.3-hk2 worked. Surf on C2 Board stable, hanging 10, after applying the implementation directly to Odroid Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (v1.1) found at http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:c2_ubuntu_release_note_v1.1 and by first removing old via sudo apt-get remove chromium-browser:armhf, then just run the three commands to get the repository, update and install as indicated in the new topic. First Chromium did take 5 minutes to launch. Subsequent launches only took a few seconds. Hasn't crashed, but unit does require use of a cooling fan to run my Youtube HD test, and the video test has revealed some periods of hesitation, perhaps for the updated app to report errors and recover. The test running Youtube.com videos in 1080 has some errors being reported back to the command line, which I will post on the new thread. Time permitting I will try using the new official Odroid Ubuntu 16.04 LTS image found at http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=136&t=21348 and report back.

I am currently running official ODROID Ubuntu 14.04.03 updated with all the latest updates (which means it is now at 14.04.5).

This includes:

root@odroid:~# dpkg -l |grep chromium
ii chromium-browser 51.0.2704.79-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1121 armhf Chromium web browser, open-source version of Chrome
ii chromium-browser-l10n 51.0.2704.79-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1121 all chromium-browser language packages
ii chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra 51.0.2704.79-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1121 armhf Extra ffmpeg codecs for the Chromium Browser

I did not have to do anything special to get these package versions other than run sudo -s; apt-get update; apt-get upgrade; apt-get dist-upgrade

chromium-browser seems to work fine, although it is fairly slow and doesn't seem to handle Javascript-heavy sites all that well. It opens quickly enough and browses to web sites, so I guess I can report I am not having trouble with it. I just wish it were faster...

There is a way to update it?
My chromium has no acceleration in hardware. 720p videos will not play on youtube.
In 480p sometimes choke ... I saw some commands in the first posts, but are in version 48, and here the version I use is 52.
How do I proceed? I read any topic, but I found nothing current to build 50.

Currently we don't have support for video decoding on chromium.
Just 3D Content is supported. (WebGL, etc..)

Chromium Ver 53.0.2785.143 built is working on C2 64bit Ubuntu. :o :D

But it doesn't work on C1 & XU4 Ubuntu.
I think there are something broken dependencies with the latest armhf 32bit Chromium built again. :(

I was wondering if a fix has been implemented for the XU4? I am receiving the following messages and just want to make sure I didn't miss anything :)

Actually, Chromium in XU4 was forgotten, is only released to download Firefox, and Chrome remains locked.
Are there any plans to release this version ownload 3 appearing on system updates, or XU4 unfortunately had been killed in version 48 you?
Several times Chromium asks me to update the version but it is unfortunately not possible.
Some sites also ask for me to upgrade to the latest version.

Meveric's Chromium-53 build runs on XU4 Ubuntu 16.04.

I've installed it with below steps. Youtube video rendering is smoother for me.
Code: Select all
wget http://oph.mdrjr.net/meveric/other/Ubuntu/Chromium/chromium-browser-l10n_53.0.2785.143-0ubuntu1.1307~odroid1_all.deb
wget http://oph.mdrjr.net/meveric/other/Ubuntu/Chromium/chromium-browser_53.0.2785.143-0ubuntu1.1307~odroid1_armhf.deb
wget http://oph.mdrjr.net/meveric/other/Ubuntu/Chromium/chromium-chromedriver_53.0.2785.143-0ubuntu1.1307~odroid1_armhf.deb
wget http://oph.mdrjr.net/meveric/other/Ubuntu/Chromium/chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_53.0.2785.143-0ubuntu1.1307~odroid1_armhf.deb
wget http://oph.mdrjr.net/meveric/other/Ubuntu/Chromium/chromium-codecs-ffmpeg_53.0.2785.143-0ubuntu1.1307~odroid1_armhf.deb
sudo dpkg -i --force-hold chromium-*

But C1/C1+/C0 has some issue when we ran WebGL examples. There were some obvious flickering issues.
We will look into the issue later.

Great! meveric's Chromium 53 package runs nicely on my XU4. It looks more responsive than v48. Thank you guys.
I just want to know how meveric solved the issue which couldn't be addressed by Canonical guys. different libraries? or different build options? or different toolchains?

GCC 5.1 up to 5.3 seems to have a nasty bug that prevents creating a working versions of Chromium.
If you compile it with GCC 4.9 instead it's working there are probably other compilers such as clang that should work too.
Apparently GCC 6.1 and higher could work as well, maybe even GCC 5.4
Ubuntu 16.04 uses GCC 5.3 as default and the build system of Ubuntu builds everything with that GCC version.

Useful information. Did you use gcc 6.1 to make a working chromium package?

No, I used GCC 4.9 since Ubuntu 16.04. still has packages for that and it's known to work.
Else I would have had to build GCC 6.1 first and then building Chromium again.
And building Chromium takes extremely long and so does GCC if you have to build it yourself.

So let's say we have to wait for the next version of Ubuntu to work with GCC 6.1?
Canonical always doing shit.

In time ... Great job, @meveric!
