How about RISC-V for next ODROID ?

HiFive begin to croud funding SiFive Freedom U540 SoC dev board. It has quad cord CPU with 8 GB ECC memory but it's quiet expansive.

How about Hard Kernel release cheaper U540 SoC dev board ? SW and kernel support is very strong all around world and a lots of student and labs will buy RISC-V dev board.

I might miss GPU and other hardware accelerators, but strong SW support is far more important than HW features.

I think the board is already very cheap. We can't make it cheaper since the SoC and ECC-DRAM are quite expensive.
BTW, did you have any chance to review their Linux kernel source code?

As I know ECC is optional for most of memory controllers.
That expansive RISC-V dev board has ECC because it's targeting big industries. (Server, Super Computer Etc..)

There is no price tag on Freedom U540 SoC and it's family yet.

Kernel support seems to be fine.
But current SoC design has a very limited capability for server application.
Since there is no SATA/PCIe/USB3.0 for highspeed storage IO, nobody can expect any suitable headless server use cases.
