Looks like a great project, and it's already over-funded. What don't you like about it?

In the video they don't show a C1 but a U3, which doesn't surprise me, since the C1 is actually way to slow to host many players.
Even the U3 is probably having issues with what they advertise.
Also things like "This is the Ethernet port, where you plug in your LAN or Wifi Cable" makes you rather smile
It also seems they offer a "Pro Server" which they claim has twice as many cores and so on.. Which indicates, they are also selling the same thing on XU3/XU4 machines.
Anyway, there's a guide here in the forum how to do the same thing (except the phone app).
And I guess 99$ for an U3 with custom software is "ok" considering the U3 issn't even produced any longer, they seem to have quite a stock of them to actually have a Kickstarter Project around it.
If they still sell it, it's probably an easy way to get your hands on an ODROID U3 which works much better than a C1
Edit: Ah, I read the specs of the board on the site again, and there they describe a C1.
Guess they had to change it when the U3 was dropped.. Too bad.. but i wouldn't get a C1 for minecraft. That's probably no fun at all
They also don't have good knowledge of what they sell, claiming they have 8GB "SSDs" for the system

Ah, and if they plan to sell it GPLv2 forces them to publish/link to the source code for the Linux distro used.

I agree that running Mojang's Minecraft server on an ODROID-C1 will be severely limited. Spigot would be a better choice, but will probably overheat the C1 very quickly. The XU4 would work just fine, though.

I think they will sell the C1 because of its price.
Also, on the project founder's blog is written that they have developed a control panel and etc etc.
But I think that they just took pre-made software, rebranded it, and made a firmware out of that.

Re: Kickstarter fools: - a $99 "Minecraft server"
I know Bob and his family, and they have built a lot more into the server than what would be easy to do, like smartphone apps for controlling the server and players and more.
I think $99 is a decent price to pay for someone who wants to get this as a gift for a family member or friend but either isn't good at setting up software or doesn't have time to do it themselves.

Re: Kickstarter fools: - a $99 "Minecraft server"
It's too bad this has turned out so badly. It gives them a bad rep and if it does ship it may give the Odroid a bad rep as well. I've hosted a lot of minecraft servers through the years. Even one on an Odroid-C1. A 20 person server on the C1? I don't see any way that is even remotely possible. I think they would be doing well to get 5 by the time you have complex structures made and do resource intensive activities like walking through nether portals. Similarly I don't see the U-3/4 being able to support anywhere near 50 players.
It really looks like they didn't know what they were getting themselves into. I hope they manage to find a way out but I honestly don't see one.
