5 years and :(

Unread postby Cartridge » Wed Apr 26, 2017 8:51 pm

Well yesterday, april 25th...

My Xu3 gave in... I had lots of fun experimenting with it,
been a good computer, has done everything I wanted and more. But the time has come... to die. As I can see...
Also sadly, It was a bad time for it to die. I had other ODROIDS, experimented with them and sold them to close relatives for them to benefit the joy of ODROIDS.
So at this moment, I have no more ODROID. Kinda sad to be in this situation. I was just about to try Kernel 4.9, while testing it, the Xu3 made a pop noise and all led died. No more current goes through it. It burned. Died...
Farewell my favorite Xu3. It's been a wild ride.
I got rid of most of my desktops and only desktop computers I have cant even run a video right...
I'll have to wait to buy another one..

Farewell....

That's a sad experience, though 5 years is a long time in SBC years :)
However, have you tried resurrecting it? Try to power it with 5V/GND through the GPIO pins to bypass the PMIC.

That's a fine idea, but I would check the power supply first to make sure it didn't go bad.

I dont have the know how to do those things sadly. I could look for a universal plug and a barrel that fits the Xu3 as for the GPIO pins I have no clue how to do that.

You would need to "hack away" and connect the power supply's 5V (inner lead) to the 5V GPIO and the GND (outer lead) to the GND GPIO (http://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id= ... dware_gpio).
You might be able to get away with a breakboard and some jumper cables, though I don't know if dupont wires are rated for 4A of current.

Hmm i seem to not have the tools and wires to make that happen. I'll buy another one and research on how to solder properly and what kind of wires and equipment i need to fix it. A Xu4 cant be bad, im looming forward to having 2 usb 3.0.

The XU3 also had 2 USB 3.0 ports even if one of them was a Mini USB 3.0, but that one could be be used with a cable as a normal USB 3.0 as well.
In fact, the XU3 had two USB 3.0 ports which each were on a separate USB 3.0 BUS, while the XU4 the two USB 3.0 share the SAME BUS, and the second BUS is actually used by Gigabit Ethernet ;)

Yea sadly it had to leave me. And just as I was going to see if ameridroid is selling any, and coming you you commented @rooted XD almost same time, my phone rang xD

--edit--
Why is it 189$? US even! in cad thats like 257$, without shipping. + taxes because thats now a canadian law.... When it passes the border. If I'm gonna spend that much money, I'll spend it on HK. I mean It's used.

The original price for the XU3 was $179.00 if I remember correctly.

It's so much because of supply and demand, demand is there but supply isn't unfortunately. There are many looking for the power monitoring ability of the XU3 for various reasons.

Ameridroid doesn't actually have any in stock, he only has the XU3 lite.

I have an XU3 lite I could let go of, but I'm assuming you're after the power monitoring of the non-lite version.

I'll give the Xu4 a go and see how I like it. It does look nice, the ram is less fast by around aprox 200mhz. There's up's and downs... Hard to choose. I'll just try it because I need one now.

The XU3 had a USB Gigabit Ethernet adapter as an optional accessory, which was rolled into the XU4.

Wasn't it about half as fast if I remember correctly, 600'ish Mbit?

I've been looking at those USB 3.0 hubs with built-in Gigabit adapter to use on my XU4, I'm looking to totally get rid of my router and I need a hub. Currently it's doing splendidly as my 5ghz wireless, I can pull down about 185 megabit (maxing my Internet connection). It takes a router almost twice as expensive to do this.

it`s not rockett science "cartridge"...all you need is a soldering iron with a pointy tip..10 cm of light hook up wire..and a dmm meter would be very handy..do you have these oh and some solder...

if you let the magic smoke out then yes it is prolly faulty..but you can try..if you have the gear to do it then i will explain how to do it..!!!

Talk to a phone repair shop - it should be a cheap job.
