Win32DiskImager with write-verify function.

Unread post by odroid » Tue Apr 02, 2013 4:57 pm

Update!

Use this latest V1.3 utility for flashing the OS image on the Windows OS.
http://dn.odroid.com/DiskImager_ODROID/ ... d-v1.3.zip
Image

You can easily select an O/S image to flash from a dialog box and show you the progress of flashing once you click Write button.
Just make sure if your USB card is inserted with eMMC or MicroSD properly before you click the button.
After writing, you must click the
“Verify” button if you want to verify the written data.

Original source code :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/

Patch file
http://sourceforge.net/p/win32diskimage ... es/7/#5218

Please ignore this old one.
==============================================================
I made a simple update on Win32DiskImager couple of months ago.
http://www.hardkernel.com/?b144
This utility reduced many issues of wrong/bad flashing OS image.

But few people still have some issues of flashing.
From time to time, that issues were resolved by wipe (dd with zero in Ubuntu/Linux)

So I made a speical version with the WIPE.
http://dn.odroid.com/DiskImager_ODROID/ ... gerV11.zip

If you press "Write" button, it wipes your SD/eMMC first.
The wipe process writes all the sector with "0" and read back for verification.
So it takes very long time. For example, 16GB-eMMC needed about 25~30 minutes.
After the wipe process, it writes the OS image and verify(read back and compare) it again.

He's asking if he can use it to create an image from his SD card (kinda like `dd if=/dev/sdd of=/home/user/My-ODROID-X2-Image.img bs=8M`) so that he has a backup of his SD card just in case he breaks something.

@jbates58: no, it doesn't allow you to make a backup image. You could do that with dd on Linux. If you don't have a Linux computer, then you could boot your desktop with an Ubuntu Live CD or you could use VirtualBox to create a Linux virtual machine.

Read function on this software should work !

If you press "Read" button, it will ask you the file name to save the image.

On lInux you can do it with dd.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=4M
(the command above will write zero's all over the sdcard)

them flash normally with dd

shocking o0
Can't get it run via Linux but works after I flashed on Windows. That's not how it supposed to be.
What does Windows do different?

Anyway thanks for the tool.
