[TOOLS] Arduino-IDE

Unread post by meveric » Tue Feb 10, 2015 11:18 pm

Hello I've compiled a newer version of Arduino-IDE in case someone wants to try it.
I was asked in the past if i could publish a newer version of Arduino-IDE and this is the current result.

Since i'm not working with it, i have only limited options to test it, so please give me some feedback so i can adapt the package if something is needed or missing.

Current Version:
Arduino 1.6.5 can be installed from my repository (all/main package list) via:

Code: Select all

apt-get install arduino
For Debian Wheezy I had to backport libjssc-java from Debian Jessie but this went without issue and is also part of my repository (debian/backports package list).

I used to use Arduino IDE on a Banana Pi and decided to migrate to ODROID C1 due to the much better performance of the board.
After manually installling libastylej-jni (dependency with arduino_1.6.0_all.deb) the installation went fine and Arduino icons were created in "Electronics" as well as in "Development".
Now when I try to launch the IDE nothing happens, the IDE does not come up.
Is there anything I can check?

the 1.6.0 package does not really work right now.. haven't had the time too check out why it's not working.. if you start it from terminal, you see it complains about the main function.

It's kinda sucks, that a project like Arduino does not offer ARM support, although they have ARM boards in there product line.. you always has to hack the source code to be able to compile it at all -.-

last package that was working is a 1.5.8 which is in my repository.. but even that had some issues, which was known to the developers..

Thanks for the quick response.
Once you have worked with 1.6 you will not want to go back to 1.5x or earlier, because 1.6 is a big improvement, especially the serial support and the serial terminal which was a real pain when used with USB devices like Leonardo.
In the meantime I managed to get 1.6 RC2 working on a Pi2 running Jessie, so that's a workaround for the moment.
I would really prefer to run it on the C1 if possible.

I fully agree, Projects like Arduino or Pinguino seem to ignore the need for Linux Support on ARM Platforms.

Is there any chance to see a working 1.6 IDE on C1 soon?

The RPi2 package could work on the C1 as well.. maybe i take a look at their package and see if i can redo the same for C1.

Update:
Arduino 1.6.5 can be installed from my repository (all/main package list) via:

For Debian Wheezy I had to backport libjssc-java from Debian Jessie but this went without issue and is also part of my repository (debian/backports package list).

I could start the IDE without issues, but as mentioned earlier, i'm no guru in this and haven't done any testing yet.
Feedback is welcomed :)

Wow! Thanks! I was really interested in an updated ARM version of Arduino for use on the XU3 and my Raspberry Pi.

I just need to know what repository that I need to add to install this.

Also, bonus question, I have been searching the internet for any information on how to compile Arduino from source to ARM package.
Could you please explain how this program was packaged, and what changes may have been made to the source code (Another user posted in this thread that Arduino does not play nicely with ARM)?

Thanks!
If I can't open it, I don't own it.

Check the "HOWTO" link in my signature, there you find how to add my repository.

There are different guides that i used. One is right here in the forums:
http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=13257

Others i found on RPi Forums: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 66&t=92662

What packages and dependencies are in your repo for Arduino IDE? I try to keep a folder of non-ubuntu packages so it is easier to find them when I re-image the Odroid.
If I can't open it, I don't own it.

nope, C2 is a different architecture. I haven't compiled Arduino-IDE for C2 yet.
