paraphrased recap of this thread:

request Ubuntu 16.04 LTS for ODROID-XU

We haven't supported Ubuntu 16.04 for XU. Sorry

me: this "haven't supported" response is both obvious, vague and doesn't shed light on why there is no support or what is supported.
i assume that is because you have found another OS that you prefer which i do not see listed in this thread, perhaps Ubuntu Mate? isn't the purpose of this forum is to be helpful and to support those who are looking to purchase or have purchased the Odroid XU4, etc. the response seems to lack intention. perhaps there is a cultural disconnect? perhaps the response is from someone who is highly technically proficient but may not have the personality or training to explain things to USA customers? this response comes across as rude and disrespectful, yet i doubt the poster meant any disrespect. i would like to run linux on the XU4 that i am planing on purchasing, i assume doing so is not asking too much of Hard Kernel and that Odroid XU is designed, in part, to run Linux. please either explain the best most up to date Linux, recommended Linux or direct this thread to the appropriate section of the site that deals with this topic. it seems this would be the obvious thing to post here. i am excited to be getting an XU4 and to instal a non Android distribution of Linux. thanks!

edit:
OK, I just read the heading on this thread: You don't need any of this if you flashed one of our official images.

XU is one board XU4 is another, totally different boards.
They aren't software compatible at all.

XU is a EOL product, it won't receive updates from us anymore.

XU4 is a active product with constant updates.

XU3/XU4/XU4Q/XU4-Lite/HC1/HC2/MC1 all uses the same SoC hence all software compatible.
Same image applies to all of those boards.
