It's disappointing that despite the power supply recommendation being 12v/2a that the UK Distributor, Odroid.co.uk is not only supplying 12v/1.5a but that you cannot order the board without the power supply.
The power supply is an option in the ordering process?

At the time of posting it was not an option to exclude but they must have seen it and modified the page.

Can't seem to download any images for the C4, all links go to 404 not found pages, is there another link?

Or you could image and upload from a C4 on the bench.

Using this link: https://wiki.odroid.com/getting_started ... _odroid-c4
still returns 404 for any mirror (minimal or desktop)

Found it here: https://odroid.in/?directory=.%2Fubuntu ... ts%2Fc4%2F

I think the first step would be to connect the spi nand to gpio and get it recognized in the os as a /dev/mtd. Then you can worry if the onboard bootstrap code tries to boot from spi flash before sd/emmc.
Do you plan on running without any sd/emmc attached, or are you interested in multiboot with sd/emmc?

If you don't mind a local sd, I think that petitboot could be loaded from sd without too much extra development effort and scan sd/emmc/usb and provide a boot menu or an installation environment simiar to what tobetter did for n2.

The only thing in the C4 that would be an upgrade is the memory speed and the VPU.

I don't see how DDR4 1333MHz would be an upgrade to DDR4 1866MHz

Read the full specs of the C4, the NanoPi M4 is using LPDDR3-1866 not DDR4 (the M4V2 uses DDR4)

The C4 memory specs:
DDR4 4GiB with 32-bit bus width
Data rate: 2640 MT/s (PC4-21333 grade)

Awesome! Although I'm not in favour of going too much off-topic, I'm really curious where you use so many not-very-fast cores for. Does it bring one supercomputer that shows that desktop on your monitor (and if so, what's its use, apart from having many cores with a relatively low power consumption, i.e. does the system really use all those cores efficiently)? Are you doing some complex calculation(s) that can be spread over that many cores? Or any other use?

Sorry again for cluttering this topic, but I'm not able to send PMs, yet.

On topic: I ordered a C4, including a power supply and a case (I already own a 32GB eMMC), a few days ago. I'll have to wait a bit, as delivery times are 2-3 weeks at the shop in my country, but I'm fine with that.

An ODROID-C4 dedicated case is available too. C1+/C2 cases are not compatible with C4 due to the different HDMI connector location as well as DC plug diameter.

Where to buy : https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/odroid-c4-case-black/

Note: To minimize the thermal throttling in the enclosure, you need to lower the CPU maximum clock frequency to 1.8Ghz from 2.0Ghz.

"The drawings of the plastic case is supplied in AutoCAD and STEP format." <--- I cant find where to download the STEP file

I made a VESA mount for the back of my TV for my C2... I will need to make one for the C4 as well.

And also AutoCAD and STL file here.

After following the excellent youtube video ( https://youtu.be/4MfHMKcHaUc ) procedure, I now have a C4 running Wayland with a nicely accelerated desktop. The performance is light years better than the C2 this is replacing. Good work HardKernel!

The only missing piece for me now is a cli 4k video player. The announcement above states that " We have c2play and kplayer examples which can play 4K/UHD H.265 60fps videos smoothly on the framebuffer" but I'm not finding c2play in the apt repository. Can someone point me to a c2play for the C4 that I can install or build?

4K video playback has some issues on Ubuntu 20.04 minimal (Legacy Kernel 4.4 and fbdev) image at this moment. When we tested 4K video function on Ubuntu 18.04 last year, there was no such issue as far as I remember.
Please give us a couple of weeks to resolve the VPU driver and ffmpeg related problems in 20.04. Once we have a preliminary image with a working video player package, we will share it via another thread.
Also note that upstream Kernel 5.4 ~ 5.7 still have no proper VPU driver yet.

If you need to check 4K video rendering performance urgently, consider trying Android OS images or CoreELEC OS image.

I don't think so. CVBS pins of CPU are just off with any connections in the schematics.

It means that some kernel parameters are not needed - like cvbsmode=576cvbs , which get set in boot.ini

If you need specific Ubuntu or Debian version, which doesn't already exist, you can build one.

For multimedia features, kernel 4.9.y is currently still the best way to go, but soon things will also work well on a modern, 5.6.->.

As per our test results, eMMC is 128GB and MicroSD is 512GB.
But Samsung doesn't produce the 128GB eMMC chipset any more and we've not sold the 128GB eMMC module from early this year.

No. They are not compatible each other.
Which OS image and application software did you run on the C2?

No. You have to use the dedicated Android 9(pie) 64bit OS images for the ODROID-C4.

Hello,

I want to use an Odroid-C4 as a home automation server.
On this server, I plan to put several USB controllers:
- Z-Wave controller (ex : Aeotec ZW090 "Z-Stick" GEN5)
- GSM USB Key (ex: Huawei E3372)
- Bluetooth dongle (ex : UD100-G03)
- Maybe a 4th

For a RaspBerry Pi for example, it is recommended to use a self-powered hub.
What about the Odroid-C4?

Thanks.

self-powered USB hub is always recommended, as high CPU usage could theoretically affect power draw on USB ports.
Also USB specification limits power draw to 5V and depending on the standard 500mA (USB 2.0) or 900mA (USB 3.0) so 2.5W or 4.5W in total, which also means, if the sum of USB devices exceed 4.5W power draw it's out of specification and it may not work.
Newer USB standards (USB 3.1), and some power USB standards support higher draw 1.5A on USB 3.0 (or a lot higher on USB 3.1). But I wouldn't bet on it.
Overall powered USB hub is always the better solution to be on the save side.

I think the C4 can handle those devices without a powered hub. If you get into problems later you should separate low speed and high speed devices (connect some to the otg port).

You'll need a hub for the Z-Stick anyway, might as well make it a powered one.

Is it too bulky and covers up the ports? Maybe you can get away with an extension cable...
