Call for testing Kernel 6.6

Post by mdrjr »

The same way we updated to kernel 6.1 we are now updating to kernel 6.6

For reference the old thread: viewtopic.php?f=177&t=46680

Its a call for people to test and help find out what features are missing

It looks like there are less than 100 days left until the Ubuntu 24.04 release.
I hope that critical bugs will be resolved and all major features will be implemented by then. ;)

From my testing...

its missing the Generic GPIO bit-banged PWM driver (CONFIG_PWM_GPIO), so the fan on the N2+ doesnt work.

The option is completely missing from kernel config like xconfig. pwm-gpio.c is also missing from the drivers/pwm folder.

No problem

Tho it doesn’t build with the option selected.

Oops, I've just merged the driver and didn't checked it.
I fixed the driver to work with kernel 6.6 now :)
Tested fan on N2+ working just fine.

CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_IPVS
CONFIG_BRIDGE_VLAN_FILTERING
CONFIG_BTRFS_FS_POSIX_ACL

Currently I have updated my systems to 6.6 (both the M1S and the N2+).
I must say my systems work mostly with a vanilla kernel, but there is one thing I hope to be supported from odroid + mainline:
the wifi adapter.

I have an odroid 5A,a 5B and a 5BK, but none works yet with 6.6.x (vanilla + some DTB-files for the Odoids)..
Currently I´ḿ using the M1S with a RTL8192 which is pretty stable. The 5BK seems to ¨almost work¨, but for a project I´d call that a "fail¨, since I can´t depend on it.
Any link I try to get the adapters to work are 1-2years old (github), which is a problem since those are not fit for a more recent 6.6-kernel.

Now the specific question: what wifi adapter would you recommend for an N2+ (or an M1S)?
If you say ¨my sources work as well as upstream" I could switch to your repository.

Is there a chance to get the gpio power button functionality brought to mainline?

Possible, yes, with a overlay.

Just to understand, you use a button to power off the board?

I would appreciate to use the power button to power up and shut down.
Power cycling by pulling and reconect the cable is just going on my nerves.
Please figure something out.
And by the way a newer U-Boot is also nice.

Actually, the functionality kernel 4.9 and corresponding u-boot had, so power up and power down.
I presume there was proprietary code in u-boot, which does not exist for the one used with 6.6.

I used the same u-boot for everything, 4.9, 6.1 and 6.6.
So the part that powers up, should be from u-boot, should work.

Power down is from Linux world, that shouldn't be working right now.
Can you guys confirm that? I will prepare later a test board to look at this.

Added today for kernel 6.6, can I have a confirmation that it works as expected?

I tested here and it worked for me, but i would be great to hear from others.

I noticed the 6.6 kernel doesn't include drivers for an Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8811AU 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Odroid branded WLAN Adapter
