HELP!!! What Romsets and Bios Files Are Required?

Post by poker909 »

Most of my roms aren't recognized. Some romsets I can fix by changing the file extension (from .gen to .md for genesis emulation in one example), others, like SNES, I needed to unzip each file (which made the artwork go away), and others like MAME will play some, but not most games. PSX and Coleco give me a missing BIOS message with any ROM even though I've put (hopefully) the right BIOS in the right folder.

Are there detailed instructions on how to get each emulator to work (using the stock OS), and what version/type roms each one is looking for? I've spent many hours and keep going in circles.

In general, the ROM extensions are based on TOSEC releases. This is done to ensure known working ROMs are used.

Only uncompressed ROMs are supported. This is done to prevent wearing out the flash storage (eMMC / SD card) from decompression.

MAME ROM sets are specific to a version of MAME. The version provided is "MAME2003Plus". Only ROM sets created for this version are expected to work.

If a BIOS file is required, a message will be displayed indicated what the file name should be and where to place it.

The following emulators require a BIOS file:

Code: Select all

atari5200 = "5200.rom"
coleco ="BIOS.col"
pcenginecd = "syscard3.pce"
psx = "SCPH1001.BIN"
segacd = "bios_CD_U.bin"
3do = "panafz10.bin"
neogeo = "uni-bios.rom"
saturn = "saturn_bios.bin|sega_101.bin:mpr-17933.bin"

See https://docs.libretro.com/library/bios/ for reference to the correct bios you need for each system.
