Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
Hello,
I am one of the main contributors to the Jelos linux CFW, currently found on several anbernic devices. I would be interested in brining Jelos to this device if Hardkernel could send out a developer unit.
The main details of the Jelos project can be found here:
https://github.com/JustEnoughLinuxOS/distribution/wiki
If interested please let me know.
Thank you,
Brooksytech

I would love to see this happen. Jelos would be an ideal fit for this device.

It would be AWESOME! Judging by people’s comments, Jelos and Batocera could really boost sales!

Re: Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
I fully support JelOS on this. It's the new hot Operating System for arm linux handhelds and they now support x86 devices as well. Would be cool to see what they do with the OGU.

Re: Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
@brooksytech,
Thank you for introducing the JELOS.
I like the expression of Just Enough Linux Operating System.
I enjoyed visiting your dev team's Github and saw fewtarius and you brooksytech lead the development.
If the JELOS team is planning to officially support ODROID-GO Ultra, we will send out 2 sets of OGU development kits in the next week.
If so, please send me the shipping information below for two people via PM.
- ODROID forum ID :
- Full name :
- Address with zip code :
- email :
- phone number :
- Preferred color of OGU : Dim Gray or Clear White
PS. You might need to post or reply a few more times to enable the PM feature.
I can't clearly recall the minimum post count at this moment. But it must be 3 or 5.
Sorry for the annoying stuff.

Really happy to see Hardkernel sending development units to further JELOS development. Kudos.

Re: Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
Just thought I would chime in real quick on the status of this. Currently we are waiting on a mainline kernel to be available for the OGU. Sounds like we are getting close.
Beyond that we are working through building hardkernel's u-boot fork as part of jelos build env.

Re: Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
I don't know if it is only me but OGU development looks stalled in this moment.
We have only reference image and one from Retro Arena (which is very good btw). No news even about EmuELEC and my first bet was that this will come out soon after OGU launch. I know that Shanti has some performance issues but no progress report so far.
What about other images, is there any in development?

I understand your concern. I test images for HardKernel and try to actively keep up with development. While on a surface level, it may not seem as if development is happening that is not the case (It continues in the background). So, allow me to share what I know for both you and any other curious parties (Others are welcome to chime in or correct me).
Stock firmware: Still actively being improved. Changes to follow.
RetroArena: Actively being worked on, JohnnyOnFlame shared that they have almost finished adding Portmaster and Themesmaster. Stable build available with added systems.
Batocera: No update as yet. They have received development devices.
Android: Notime2db has been working away at getting android running, a build exists but it is unstable at present and has some issues.
Jelos: No update as yet but work had started on this device. Perhaps Brooks could give us an update.
I suspect that things will pick up towards the end of January start of Feb as everyone gets back into the groove of things. Again this is just info gathered from various channels. It's not infallible!

Re: Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
Thank you for the updates. My OGU is still sitting gathering dust until a good stable firmware is available for it. For what it's worth, the OGS is (and has been) doing great but I would like to eventually move on to the OGU as the size is more convenient to carry daily than my Steam Deck.Andyyy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 12:10 pmHello IgaBiva,IgaBiva wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 5:08 pmI don't know if it is only me but OGU development looks stalled in this moment.

Re: Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
Let's hope that you are right. As soon as OGU came out, I sold my OGS hopping that we will have more firmwares for it. Now we have only TheRa and refererence image...
I saw on Discord that Jelos developers are waiting for mainline Linux, I don't think that we can hope that they will do anything with current version.
Regarding Android, notime2d8 is also not making progress because it seems that that this chip is made for HDMI out and forcing LCD as the main display is not working. Maybe someone from Odroid could help here?

Re: Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
Hello, Jelos has not forgot about the Odroid Go Ultra and I would still like to support this device. But currently the lack of community support as a whole is holding back our progress. We dont necessarily need to have mainline support to get Jelos working on this device (but it would make it a lot easier).
I think the biggest thing holding us back is we dont understand how u-boot and the firmware works for the OGU.

You haven't asked any questions, Hardkernel staff and knowledgeable users are here to help.brooksytech wrote: I think the biggest thing holding us back is we dont understand how u-boot and the firmware works for the OGU.
What specifically do you not understand or need a better understanding of?

Re: Jelos on the Odroid Ultra
The procedure for building u-boot is documented here:brooksytech wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 5:51 amI think the biggest thing holding us back is we dont understand how u-boot and the firmware works for the OGU.
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid_go_ultra ... ing_u-boot
Once it is build, the binary (u-boot.bin) is copied to the installation media here:
https://github.com/hardkernel/u-boot/bl ... _fusing.sh
The first partion on the media should be formatted as FAT32. The files in the reference image should be copied to it. If boot.ini is not modified, u-boot will look for "Image.gz" for the Linux kernel and "uInitrd" for initial RAM disk. Both should be replaced with whatever is necessary to boot the custom image. Attention should be paid to the line in boot.ini that defines the kernel command line. It species the UUID of the Linux partition:
Code: Select all
root=UUID=e139ce78-9841-40fe-8823-96a304a09859
