Any good backup deserves to be verified periodically for consistency!

Also, if you use borg mount repository::backup /mount/point you can access a snapshot of your data. Remember to unmount it, or future backups might get stuck.

And I don't remember, but I think you need to run a borg purge (or was it prune?) to enforce your backup history. Ideally with && after borg backup.

And you might want to periodically dump the list of installed packages somewhere, for safe keeping. And maybe /root/.bash_history and /var/spool/cron if you use crontab.

There are borgmatic settings for taking care of verification. However I'm never seeing results of the checks, so it's pretty much pointless...
The backup history is handled by borgmatic, all you have to do is to specify how many you want to keep.

Those are all good suggestions of additional stuff for safekeeping. Where do I find the list of installed packages in Ubuntu?

One way to do it is sudo apt list --installed
