I am happy to provide you with new pre-installed KODI images, they will have the animated SplashScreen on booting + GameStream Support (which was not working on the image before)

Hi, these new changes are in kodi-bin directly? So I can do just apt upgrade? Or I need to extract it somehow from the new Ubuntu image?

Asking, because in the repo is just the old kodi-bin from 2023.

Thanks and happy new year :)

Most of those changes did affect only the image with pre-installed KODI, but everything should just work if you manually installed KODI, just report if it doesn't ;)

P.S.: thanks, and happy new year for you too!

For a reason I dont understand this image is not bootable in my m1s, so I will try to recreate it based on the steps of the first post. in order to do that I have to select an image, what is the image version you are using?

Iǘe used the server version in the reposotory and followed up all steps in post one. Is there anything else to do?

For example I dont have the animated SplashScreen on booting you added a couple of post ago.

I will really appreciate if you can add the addon pvr simple client, because I need to use m2u lists for iptv.

                Thank you

Strange, the images are testet and known to work, any error message or just black screen when you boot? For the manual installation, I also used the server image, to have the SplashScreen just install it via apt install kodi-boot-splashscreen

                Regards,
                Daniel

I flash it with ballena etcher, like any other image, unplug M1S from pc and remove the power and the sdcard from the M1S.

After that I power it again, like I do with any other image, but it doesnt boot, the blue light of the M1S keeps turned off, not blinking like when you flased a bootable image.

I think it is not a problem of the image, but there is something strange/wrong with my unit.

I flased ubuntu server, and it works, and repeated post 1 steps, so... now all is OK.

How can I port the PVR simple client addon to be used in this kodi? It is quite important to me.

                Thank you

I testet it now and it works, I even didn't had to change the alsamixer settings, maybe that ALSA libraries are needed I did install it but without changing anything to alsamixer apt install alsa-utils libasound2-plugin-equal libasound2-plugin-smixer libasound2-plugins-extra, changed the audio output device to this one from within KODI ->

                    i need use pulseaudio
Changing the default output sink from PulseAudio is not hard to find with google

From a shell execute this command pacmd set-default-sink 1 to make this setting permanently edit /etc/pulse/default.pa find the line set-default-sink 0 and change it to set-default-sink 1 save the file and exit

That's it, the better approach is maybe to use PulseAudio with Bluetooth Headset or Speakers, works also very good, but it's up to your setup

                    Regards,
                    Daniel

Are you planning to migrate more plugins to increase the functionality, as the browser launcher or any other that completes the kodi functionalitY?

It would be great. Now I´m stating to take advantage of my M1S!!

How can I update this version by sudo apt upgrade or install someting by sudo apt install from a ssh sesion?

Currently I get all the time:

Waiting for cache lock: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend. It is held by process 1524 (unattended-upgr)

I want to install rknpu to experiment with Artificial Intelligence, so another question is how to temporarily stop kodi execution for performing these tests.

                            Thank you

Just wait for unattended-upgrades to finish. Or kill process 1524.
For NPU - Kodi does not use it (it uses GPU and VPU), so NPU performance should not be affected by kodi.

I thought kodi can take processor time and affect the overall performance, my mistake.

YouTube support is already present. To enable higher resolutions in the add-on, you must first install support for kodi-inputstream-adaptive. To do so, run the following commands in the terminal:

                            Code: Select all

                            sudo apt update
                            sudo apt install kodi-inputstream-adaptive

Afterwards, follow the instructions for installing the YouTube add-on here: https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:YouTube

                            Hi @AreaScout,

Is there a public branch to track how the kodi-bin is built ? To see the different patches applied.

                            Thank you.

                            Hi @AreaScout,

Is there a public branch to track how the kodi-bin is built ? To see the different patches applied.

                            Thank you.
No, there is no branch for it, changes needed for FFmpeg was discussed in a different thread here, in fakt everything to build it can be found here in the forums

                            Regards,
                            Daniel

                            Hi @AreaScout,

I appreciate your work on this project, but I wont use it because the community can't verify how it is built and if it can be trusted.
Since you distribute a custom binary of Kodi, which is licensed under GPL 2.0, can you please provide sources of your build.

                            Sincerely.

He would have needed to be using git the entire time he has been modifying Kodi and locally committing changes with comments and all that goes with that.

Not everyone has time for dealing with git, perhaps that applies here but I'll let him answer as this is speculation.

                            Hi @AreaScout,

Well I didn't point you to the links directly because you can find it all over here in the forums and I am a little bit sick of repeating myself over and over again to guys with a stand and deliver manner.
For Omega I didn't release the source changes on git because it's not out yet, they told the release would be done on 31.03.2024 and they provided a release link https://kodi.tv/article/kodi-21-0-omega-release but it is not working yet, maybe they got lost on easter egg hunt  It's like rooted was telling I don't like to rebase all the time on top of master with changes that wouldn't be accepted on Mainline because they are too unique and with changes that are already well discussed here on the forums with links to patches and all that stuff for a long time!

But you can see my changes for the Matrix release which are on my forked Github branch ->

https://github.com/AreaScout/xbmc/commi ... 77f261b26a <-- You need this change in order to make KODI not crash and run out of GBM buffers after some while
https://github.com/AreaScout/xbmc/commi ... a3ac5092b8 <-- This is needed to detect proper driver support, otherwise KODI will not start (well it will only start with MESA drivers)

viewtopic.php?p=379754#p379754 <-- This is needed to make FFmpeg work with RKMPP backend, I am using this rkmppdec.c file from -> https://github.com/JeffyCN/FFmpeg/blob/ ... dec.c#L726 with a hint from RockChip that on some SoC's (clients) this has to be done in an different way, I mailed RockChip that this change is needed, if you look on a older revision of this file the change is in already but they removed it because it works only with M1 M1S SoC, either way with the forum link you can see our SoC specific changes, they wont work on other RockChip SoC's

So, your statement that you wont use it because you can't verify how it's build is sorry to say but -> nonsense, it appears for me like a bad joke, you can find that info on so much places here in the forums, it tells me that you even didn't search!

Again, if they release Omega then I will sync and commit my sorted changes on my Github fork of KODI

P.S.: Well, one patch is missing with the GUI and Video plane ZPOS, you have to wait for that when I push the changes to my Github fork, but you can do this from command line also with before starting KODI:

                            # Switch M1/M1S gui plane on higher z-position
                            modetest -M rockchip -w 57:"zpos":1
                            # Switch M1/M1S video plane on lower z-position
                            modetest -M rockchip -w 79:"zpos":0
                            modetest -M rockchip -w 107:"zpos":0

                            Regards,
                            Daniel
