Usbip kernel modules (+vhci_hcd) for Debian 10?

Post by LordMike »

Hi,

I'm running Home Assistant OS which insists on Debian 10. But I'm unable to load the `vhci_hcd` driver. It's needed to run the `usbip` client application and load in remote usb devices. I've seem to run usbipd succesfully on an Ubuntu 22.04, also on an M1.

Are there any tips on getting this driver?

Apt seems to have nothing, I can't find it locally, I (of course) can't modprobe it.

Must I compile it myself? :(

What's the output of "uname -a"?

Sorry - I did not get a notification for this - I'm used to autosubscriptions.

The Debian 10 is showing: (where vhci_hcd is missing / unable to load)
# uname -a
Linux mbwodr01 4.19.219-odroid-arm64 #1 SMP Tue, 14 Mar 2023 04:55:34 +0000 aarch64 GNU/Linux

And Ubuntu 22.04 (where vhci_hcd is loaded)
# uname -a
Linux mbwodr02 5.18.0-odroid-arm64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Ubuntu 5.18.19-202212071725~jammy (2022-12-07) aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux

I may be able to install my software on Debian 11, which also is better support by .. well, debian..
Debian 11 should be running kernel 5.10, from what I gather.

Maybe this issue resolves itself.

Please note that the kernel for CPU RK3568 that is shipped with ODROID-M1 is supported since Linux kernel 5.18.

Oh I see. I did install a Debian 11 today, and surely enough, it runs 5.18 kernel (through netbook provided by HK).

I can also report that usbip runs on Debian 11. It mounts a usb device - I couldn't serve one though, but that's probably easily solved.
