HDMI screen resolution

Post by ibt »

Hi, I'm trying an HDMI screen with my ODROID-M1 on Android. The display has a 1920x1200 resolution but when I plug it in the image gets cut by the sides, when I open the display settings on the odroid settings the only available resolutions are 1920x1080-like resolutions (1920x1080, 1024x768 etc...), there is no 1920x1200 option. Is there a way to "force" this resolution so that the display is used correctly?

Thanks!

Can you show me your screen capture or image captrued by camera?
You can adjust screen overscan in Odroid Settings.
Display -> Zoom

Thank you for the help, I did some tests yesterday and I found out that using the last Android image (20230328) the screen gets filled properly (no black bars) but the resolution is still 1920x1080, I verified that both in system settings and in odroid settings...

Do you try to select auto item in Resolution?

Hi sorry to bump this thread after so much time but the project got sidelined so I'm picking it back up now, I'm trying a 1280x800 display now, and I get the same problem, the screen gets filled but the resolution is 1280x720 and the image is deformed, do you know if I can somehow add a custom resolution?
Yes, I did try auto and nothing changes unfortunately

Thanks for the tip, I tried by editing the config.ini adding the code lines in the guide (with modeline modified for my display) but unfortunately nothing changes, is there a way to check if the change in the file did anything?

Hi was there a customized OS image? I understood I was to implement the custombuilt option in the config.ini file, which I tried to do but nothing changed

Sorry. It was my misunderstanding.
We will try finding a 1920x1200 monitor to reproduce the issue with M1 Android OS.

I'm so sorry, I mistook your question is for N2.
Currently, setting 1920x1200 resolution is not possible. It takes a lot of time to make sure it is possible.

Are there 1920x1200 and 1280x800 resolutions in /system/usr/share/resolution_white.xml?

Hi, I attached the log. I found these lines that seem related to the issue:

Maybe I need to change some permissions?

I don't think so, it does not effect to apply new resolution.
But I've built new image included new resolutions in resolution_white.xml.
Try to install this.

Hi I just tried the new image and it doesn't seem to work, the 1280x800 and 1920x1200 resolutions are not present in the resolution lists in either settings and odroid settings. I attached the log if it can be of any help.

Are your monitors working as native resolution 1920x1200 and 1280x800?
I just added 800x480 and 1024x600 in resolutsion_white.xml for supporting VU5/7A+ and VU7+.
Do you share the website of your monitor information or specs ?

Yes, our monitor has a 1280x800 native resolution, the monitor is a custom OEM monitor so it does not have a reference website or other, if it can be useful I can PM you the datasheet of the display provided by the manufacturer

Would you be able to dump a file when your display is connected to Ubuntu and can have this information? The file I am asking is under /sys like /sys/devices/platform/display-subsystem/drm and the name of the file what I need is edid, so you can dump it like cat /sys/devices/platform/display-subsystem/drm/.../edid > edid.bin and the size of this file must be 256 or 512 bytes only. Since this is a binary format, you will need to gzip and attach to this thread.

I too am having difficulty with HDMI screen resolution and the latest Android download from the site (have not flashed the install image that you posted above yet).

I am using a Waveshare 13.3inch 2K AMOLED Touch Display, 2560×1440. I cannot change the screen resolution to anything other than 1920x1080p. I do know that it is possible for the M1 to display properly on this screen (in dark mode only), as my Lineage OS installation did find the correct resolution.

The other issue is that when not in dark mode it flashes on screens that have white backgrounds.

Thanks for any pointers.

Congratulations!
I am wondering if you are going to ship a application for your product with the Android image from Hardkernel and managing the update from, or you are going to manage your own Android build. This is required how we will manage the changes for your display. Just let us know your plan, so we can help.

I've built another selfinstall.img.
https://dn.odroid.com/RK3568/ODROID-M1/ ... 123.img.xz
I wonder if this image also works on your monitor.
Please, test and share the result.

If this image works for your monitor, we just fix elements of 1280x800 in resolution_white.xml.

I've uploaded new image for edid testing.

https://dn.odroid.com/RK3568/ODROID-M1/ ... test/edid/

First, check out this image working with your monitor.
Second. If it does not work, try the following.

make edid.bin and move edid folder.

Code: Select all

$ mkdir edid
$ mv edid.bin edid/
$ adb push edid /fat
$ adb shell
# busybox vi /fat/config.ini
###########################
# Apply custom edid
# user_def_args="drm.edid_firmware=HDMI-A-1:edid/edid.bin"

user_def_args="drm.edid_firmware=HDMI-A-1:edid/edid.bin"
If it still doesn't work, modified resolution or add new resolution in resolution_white.xml by referring to the xrandr value.

Code: Select all

$ adb remount
$ adb shell
# busybox vi /system/usr/share/resolution_white.xml
I attached 1280x800.bin that you confirmed.

Sorry for the late reply but I've been out of office! I've tried both images (1123 and 1124) and they both don't work. Tried the modifications you suggested but still no success, I don't know if I did it right though, what I did was renaming the 1280x800.bin file in your last post to edid.bin and pushing it in the /fat/edid folder, after that I uncommented the line you quoted in the /fat/config.ini, was that right?

I've uploaded new image. Try one more.

Code: Select all

$ adb shell mkdir /fat/edid
$ adb push 1280x800.bin /fat/edid/
$ adb shell
odroidm1:/ # busybox vi /fat/config.ini

user_def_args="drm.edid_firmware=HDMI-A-1:edid/1280x800.bin"
It must work as 1280x800, because It ends up being the same as selfinstall.img.

This is the firmware when you confirmed that your monitor worked.
https://dn.odroid.com/RK3568/ODROID-M1/ ... test/edid/
Retry this this image, please.

I can make to work properly with https://dn.odroid.com/RK3568/ODROID-M1/ ... 127.img.xz.
Two images work well as 1280x800 for my 4k monitor and these image are same thing that if you edited as my instruction guide.
