[RESOLVED] Connection to New SSD Gone After Reboot

Post by Riraz »

Hey,

very similar problem here to this thread.

I rebooted as the HC4 was already bugging me for a while to reboot on the motd (unattended-upgrades). Since the reboot, /dev/sdb is gone. :(

It's a new Samsung SSD 870 EVO as well as in the other thread. The other (still running) one is a new Crucial MX500.

I tried several Armbian kernels but no change. I went back to 5.10.57-meson64.

Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

Post a question on the Armbian forum since they maintain their own OS and kernel.

How can I rule out a hardware issue? I am not sure it's related to armbian. Especially since there is no connection anymore on the old kernel that used to work.

I.e. I see three possibilities here:
  1. Software upgrade and loss of the SATA-port are independent and just coincide (e.g. actually caused by the reboot).
    Then it's a hardware / firmware issue.
  2. The software upgrade caused frying of the SATA-port or the SSD.
    Then it's a firmware issue.
  3. It's a software (armbian) issue.
I already checked TP10 & 11 and they had ~ 12 V.

Try our Ubuntu OS image for hardware test.

Thank you so much! It works again using the current minimal Ubuntu image.

I would actually prefer a rolling release distribution as trouble always arose when dist-upgrading, but since it's the supported distribution, it works out of the box, is maintained and comfortably pre-configured, I'll stick with it for now. :-)

Thank you so much i) maintaining a Linux distribution ii) providing a headless image iii) for the hint / help!

What is your current kernel version? Show us 'uname -a' and 'lspci' outputs?

So they are almost the same except the irq 72 vs 73 and the sata link up/down.

Do you use ODROID-M1? or HC4? Probably M1 !
You hijacked a thread in the HC4 dedicated sub-forum.
Open a new thread in the M1 sub-forum.
