HC4 and UUGear RASPIKEY

Post by brusell »

Hi everybody,

Was somebody trying to use ODROID HC4 with UUGear RASPIKEY?

https://www.uugear.com/product/raspikey ... pberry-pi/

I used Ether to write Ubuntu 20.04 minimal but, device is not booting at all (just red light is shining).

Is it really explicitly needed to use MicroSD cards listed on ODROID Wiki?

https://odroid.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id ... _selection

Could you please eventually recommend some particular MicroSD card that is working?

Many thanks,
Stan

The official MicroSD with Hardkernel is from SanDisk UHS-I grade, personally I don't see any gain to use RASPIKEY with HC4.

BTW, did you remove the SPI firmware with flash_eraseall?

Yes, I did. I have found at home some older MicroSD an this seems to work fine, so it looks indeed like RASPIKYE compatibility issue.
It's pity, I was hoping that by using eMMC I will get rid of all disadvantages of MicroSD cards.

One question, as i didn't check yet. Is it possible to install OS directly on SATA drive without using SD card at all (i mean like booting directly from SATA drive)?

Many thanks,
Stan

You can install Debian/Ubuntu to SATA drive directly, but you have to recover the SPI flash memory which you removed. The firmware in SPI flash memory will help to start Netboot Installer for Debian 10/11 and Ubuntu 20.04/21.10. You can recover SPI flash memory using recovery firmware in the link, http://ppa.linuxfactory.or.kr/images/pe ... 222.img.xz. Download this and flash to your SD card, it will start to flash SPI flash memory as soon as HC4 starts.
