I tried to test other keyboards with ESC key, but all tested keyboard 'ESC' didn't work.
I'm going to check this issue.

Can you use 'adb command' and vi?
Change define ESCAPE key to BACK.

Code: Select all

$ adb remount
$ adb shell
# vi /vendor/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
-key 1     ESCAPE
+key 1     BACK
# reboot
It works well but I don't know if there is a side effect.

I will give it a go directly with Root Explorer.

I think you have to enable developer options then enable root there.

I checked a few times and do not see it.
Dev options seemed to be enabled by default btw.

Any good instructions for doing this on the C4?

Why is the C4 not fully rooted by default like the C2?
That was one of the things I liked about the C2.... you didn't have to screw around with it to get full access.

Android always doesn't want to access as root so they have added securty patch and some customer and customer of industries want not to get root permissions.

I wrote how to get root access on ODROID-N2, so you can install magisk perferring this post, because c4 is the same as n2.

Let me know your test result. If there are no problem, I will include that patch.

Sorry for the delay.. I forgot I did a fresh install on my linux side and had to get adb working again.

So I just used vi and replaced ESCAPE with BACK as you suggested... so far works great thanks!

Now to move on to Magisk :D
Thanks,

OK... so there is one bug.
If you are using vi to edit something you still need a valid esc to get out of edit mode.
For me I just remapped key 217 "SEARCH" to "ESCAPE" ... but this is not a good solution for everyone :(

There are some keys that do nothing on the K400r, and many that are commented out in the generic mapping file.
Is there a way to find out what the undefind keys are so I can remap them to something useful?
It would be useful to create a proper mapping file for these popular keyboards.
Maybe I will trial and error them.... will update here if I figure it out.

FYI... I was using KeyEvent Display to check the keys... it did warn me it was made for older Android ver so that could be why some keys did not show a code.
Thanks,
-OG-
