free vs. reserved memory

Post by fvolk »

Today I upgraded to shiny new tobetter's 5.10.27+ kernel.
One thing I noticed is that I have more free memory:

Code: Select all

total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 3721440 57264 3617176 604 47000 3561988
This has improved, less memory is reserved :-)
I see in kernel boot messages:

Code: Select all

Memory: 3456416K/3888128K available (13248K kernel code, 1676K rwdata, 5068K rodata, 2880K init, 516K bss, 169568K reserved, 262144K cma-reserved)
..does this difference to 4GB require to be reserved for a headless node?
Can I free more with some kernel boot parameters?
