Dear all,
The official Hardkernel Linux image for the C4/HC4 is Ubuntu 22.04, which runs on a 4.9.y long-term (LTS) kernel. However and according to the chart here:
https://endoflife.date/linux
the 4.9.y LTS kernel has reached end-of-life a couple months ago on Jan 07, 2023. Thus, the 4.9.y LTS kernel will no longer receive security or other updates.
Does anyone know how/when Hardkernel will release an official replacement kernel for the C4/HC4?
If users have a vote on this, I would suggest a v5.10 or v5.15 kernel since both of these will continue to be supported for the next ~3.5 years (see link above). But most importantly, the replacement kernel should be a direct replacement for 4.9.y when it comes to included kernel options and modules as well as overlays (like supporting the 3.2" and 3.5" LCD screens that Odroid/Ameridroid sell for the C4).
Please feel free to comment on anything above or to request that Odroid release a upstream-supported kernel.
Cheers,
Halocaridina

I'm using already for some time official 6.1 kernel. There is also 6.2 already. You do sudo apt install linux-image-6.1.0-odroid-arm64 or sudo apt install linux-image-6.2.0-odroid-arm64. Providing you already have http://ppa.linuxfactory.or.kr in your sources.d.

@j.fikar
Much appreciate your input on this. Yes, moving to a v6.1 or v6.2 kernel from the http://ppa.linuxfactory.or.kr repo is an option but its my understanding, based on various posts in the C4/HC4 forums and my own experiments, that the mainline kernels lack the required modules and/or overlays and other tweaks needed for supporting other HardKernel hardware like their 3.2" and 3.5" LCD screens. Since i use one of my C4 boards with the 3.2" LCD screen as a Pi-hole system in my home network, the only kernel allowing this is the official 4.9.y one that is now End-of-Life.
I'm hoping that HardKernel releases a official replacement C4/HC4 kernel in short order that fully supports the hardware that is still being actively sold on their web store to the public at this time.
