ODROID-GO Advance v2 is freezing

Post by MuadDib42 »

Hi,
since christmas i have two same ODROID-GO Advance consoles. Recently one of them started randomly freezing requiring hard poweroff to restart. The frequency of freezes is getting worse, initially it was few times a month, now it is almost every day. Once it was not able to boot even firmware and only thing that helped was to disconnect the battery. When freeze occurs, only red led is shining, blue stops blinking.
I've tried to updade firmware which did not help. I suspected also memory card failure, but when i've switched cards between the two consoles (and even try another one), the freezing one was still freezing while the other ran without issues.
I should have no problem with warranty return, but i am curious whether this is some known hardware issue, or whether there is something i may try before returning the console (kids will not be happy to wait for replacement one :) ).

If the blue LED doesn't blink, the OS kernel might be in panic state.
But it is hard to know what causes the kernel panic.

BTW, when & where did you purchase the devices?

Yes, once i saw kernel panic during boot (it freezed before emuelec gui was started). And few times freeze was accompanied by heavy artifacts on screen (looked like GPU failure).

I've bought them both in mid december last year, but of course they might be in stock for long.
Maybe one interesting thing, the freezing console i've been updating firmware for was showing date something like 15.7.2020 with original firmware. Not remember exactly but definitely none of dates on this page https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid_go_advan ... ery_spirom

I've bought them here https://rpishop.cz/

As far as I know, the SPI flash boot loader doesn't affect the system stability.

BTW, which EmuELEC version do you run?

Can you check the CPU clock frequency if it is overclocked or not?

4.6, overclocking is off. I did not touch those settings in "danger zone". Its running mostly stock, i just connected to wifi, enabled bilinear filtering and put it to kiosk mode so that kids cannot mess with it. So i am pretty sure both consoles are running with exactly same configuration (and have same rom set), only one is freezing though.
