What OS are you running on the GoA, and what filesystem is your stick?

You will need to ask the Recalbox team if they enabled support for FAT and USB mass storage in their image.

It works on my raspberry pi, and the option is there in the menu, so I think it is supported.

Each OS image uses its own kernel. The FAT and USB mass storage drivers must be enabled in that kernel and provided as modules if not statically compiled. The image maintainers make the choice of what drivers are enabled / included.

If you have access to a console on the image. You can use the output of 'dmesg' to help diagnose issue. It shows information about when a USB device is inserted or removed and what (if any) drivers were loaded to support it.

Also, in a shell you can do cat /proc/filesystems to see if they're enabled.
