Adapters on this image are still showing up as eth0.
I tried a couple of different USB to Ethernet adapters they all showed up as eth0.

Is there a way to create a folder with all your favourite games?

A folder with symlinks or launchers works fine.

Sorry but how can I create them exactly. I mean an area with all your favourite games "between" the emulators on the homescreen like it is in the retro arena image?

No I have another problem. I copied some roms to the Rom folder on my Win10 computer with Paragon Linux File System for Windows. Then i put the microsd card back into the oga but the menu (where you can select the arcade mode and emulators) does not appear anymore. It is only "buster64-go2" login. What is wrong and how can I fix this?

The PAragon utility is "well" known to corrupt file systems, you would better user another mean to copy your files (using a linux VM, or through network).

Windows 10 will get a Linux Filesystem Subsystem with the next release, that way you can mount Linux partitions natively under Windows 10.
Aside from that, Attract Mode has the ability to use a favorite list.
I haven't done that yet, but technically you can mark your games as "favorite".
Then add the favorite "Display" and let the favorite list generate so the gameart and gamelists show up in your favorite list.
A little complicated. I haven't done that yet, but technically it should be able to implement this in the current setup and just let it run via the scraper script.

Ok, I had to flash it again.I won't be using paragon so soon.

Another question. Is there a way to activate the dpad in mame games? In mame I only can use the analog joystick and dpad does not work. I tried to configure it in the retroarch settings, Input, Port1 Binds:

Device Type: Classic Gamepad
Analog to digital type: None
Device Index: odroidgo2_joypad
.
.
.
Up D-pad -1(N/A), Key:up) Up (-1 was the standard setting for up then I changed it to 6)

--> The menu recognized the dpad with up=6, down=7, left=8 and right=9. I changed it but the dpad still does not work in mame.

Go into the menu go in the option for the core and switch Control Mapping von "analog" to "digital" and it will use the dpad instead :)

ScummVM:
The layout for ScummVM games are a little different from other Emulators.
In the folder /home/odroid/ROMS/SCUMMVM/ you need to create a folder with the name of the game you want to play for example Beneath a Steel Sky (/home/odroid/ROMS/SCUMMVM/Beneath a Steel Sky/) in this folder you copy all your game files from the ScummVM game of your choice.
The next step is to create a file with the same name and the extension .svm in the same folder "Beneath a Steel Sky.svm" (/home/odroid/ROMS/SCUMMVM/Beneath a Steel Sky/Beneath a Steel Sky.svm)
Inside the file you put the ID of the game in our example this is "sky".
You can find the game IDs on the ScummVM Home Page in the column "Game Short Name".

....
Ok, I don't get ScummVM to work. What did I wrong (see attached screenshot)? The game is not listed in the menu.

Have you run the scrape game or scrape game and artwork command?
You always have to run these if you add something new.
The files and folders look ok, I have the same structure for mine and it works.

Thanks for your answer. Yes I always "scrape games" after I added new ones. But this time it did not work for ScummVM. But the folders and the svm file with the text are ok, right?

yes they should be fine.
Can you try going to the Attract Mode Menu...
Go to Emulators, scroll down to ScummVM, then down to generate game list and artwork and see if attract mode is able to add stuff.
Attract Mode and my scraping scripts are using different things for scraping.. so this might at least result in a game list.

When I execute "Generate Collection/Rom list" it says "Overwrite existing "ScummVM"list? Then I choose "Yes" and after this rom list is generating. But the game still is not visible in the ScummVM menu :? . I also did it the same way with 2 other Dos Games also without success.

I'm kinda confused why this shouldn't work. I've tested it a couple of times and since you followed the example with Beneath a Steel Sky, it looks exactly the same for me, where it's working fine.

Have you updated the image upfront?

Code: Select all

apt update && apt upgrade && apt dist-upgrade
Also if you can check the output of

Code: Select all

tail -f /var/log/syslog
when you start the game, as this might show hints why it's not working.

That is why I asked about the update.
The base image does not have ScummVM support, this was added through an update :)

I also wanted to run the update again but I can't reach the console (buster64-go2" login) anymore. After I exit Attract Mode ("Yes") I can see the "buster64-go2 login" for a second and then "systemd-shutdown[1]:Syncing filesystems and block devices". Then the odroidgo2 shuts down completly. What is that now?

The ScummVM config looks correct, so it should be the latest version.

Exit Attract Mode is now shutdown of the system. This was a request some time ago, instead of always having to press the power button some wanted to have the option from the menu.

It's best to access the system via SSH for updates and such, which also allows for better debugging.

no as I said.. the files look correct...
I'll try to start from a new image and test the update procedure with ScummVM integration again to see what's going on.

But as I said, the most info you would get if you log into it via ssh and check the output of the syslog while starting the game.

Ok, I tested the game files in retro image and they work fine.
Can you tell me how to start the game if it is not shown in ScummVM menu? Then I will check "tail -f /var/log/syslog".
Sorry, I don't have that much Linux knowledge either.

Code: Select all

DISPLAY=:0 retro64 scummvm <path-to-svm-file>
for example:

Code: Select all

DISPLAY=:0 retro64 scummvm "/home/odroid/ROMS/SCUMMVM/Beneath a Steel Sky/Beneath a Steel Sky.svm"
Please note, that attract mode will still be running in the background, in case it works, every click you do will cause something on attract mode.. so it's just for testing to see if it starts.

umm.... please don't use the root user for SSH, use the "odroid" user instead.
The emulators should run as user odroid, not root.

But, the loading of the emultor as user root looks fine, except for that it can't render, since this is not the correct user.

Then theoretically everything seems to be ok. It's just strange why the games don't show up in the ScummVM menu even after multiple scraping :( .

I'll check up on the scraping process and see if something is broken here.
I'm working on the scraping as is anyway right now as I want to add MS-DOS support.

I already have a version of DOSBox-X which is quite a bit faster than regular DOSBox, but it's armhf only.
Which is not a problem, but it also uses OpenGL so I need gl4es (libgl-odroid) for armhf.. and now that is a problem.
I currently make libgl-odroid multi-arch possible :D
If that works there's even a chance we can run box86 on the ODROID Go Advance, so we can run native Linux x86 games on it ;)

So I just tried a freshly flashed image and after the system update and reboot I put two ScummVM games on it.
Loom VGA version and Monkey Island 1.
I started the import for the games both were imported correctly.
So I don't think the scraping process has any issues with ScummVM.

Thanks for your efforts. I have no idea why it doesn't work for me. For testing, I will also flash a fresh image on another microsd.

Tested it on a fresh updated image and got the same result. It seems there is something wrong with my folders, the game files must be correct, cause it works with the RetroArena Image. Is it possible to send me your folder (e.g. the beneath or monkey folder with the svm file in it? Of course without the game files)?

Thanks :). Ok, these don't work either for me. I will tell you the steps how I copied it onto the microsdcard.

1) I downloaded the file on my win10
2) I extract it to an external USB Stick
3) I put the microsd card from OGA into an usb adapter.
4) I connect the external USB stick and the usb adapter with the Image file to an Raspberry with Debian.
5) I copy the folder from the usb stick to the mounted image to media/pi/root/home/odroid/ROMS/SCUMMVM
6) I unmount everything
7) I insert the microsd to the Odroid Go Advanced.
8) I start the OGA and in attract mode I scrape games only.
9) In SCUMMVM Menu the game is not listed.
10) With dingux commander I see the Beneath folder with all the files.

I don't know what it could be .

8) I start the OGA and in attract mode I scrape games only.
This could be the issue.
"Games Only" uses the attract mode internal tool to create rom list, which doesn't work for ScummVM.
If you choose "Scrape games and artwork" it should work just fine.

If you don't want your entire library to be scanned here's a workaround that you can use to ONLY scan ScummVM:
1. create a backup folder in your .attract/emulators folder
2. move all .cfg files into the backup folder
3. only copy the ScummVM.cfg file to the .attract/emulators folder
4. start "Scrape games and artwork"
5. move back the rest of the config files.
6. restart attract mode

Code: Select all

mkdir -p /home/odroid/.attract/emulators/backup/
mv /home/odroid/.attract/emulators/*.cfg /home/odroid/.attract/emulators/backup/
mv /home/odroid/.attract/emulators/backup/ScummVM.cfg /home/odroid/.attract/emulators/
# run the import from the attract mode menu
mv /home/odroid/.attract/emulators/backup/*.cfg /home/odroid/.attract/emulators/
sudo service attract-mode restart
But that's only if you are scared to scan the rest of your library ;)

I'm not sure if the internal scraper can be fixed. It's already set to "<DIR>" which should use the name of the Folder as a ROM, but it looks like that doesn't work.

Wow, finally that was the reason. Now all games are shown in the menu :D . Thanks!
Scrape games and artwork takes too long for me ;). So I will do the trick with the config files. Too bad that the internal scraper does not work either

Now I have come across another phenomenon. In my test image, where only Scumm games are stored, the scraping games and artwork worked very fast. For my main image with several games, it took even longer than expected. So I stopped this at about 27% (pressing the power button). Now the attract mode does not start anymore. Only the login prompt appears. Is there a way to fix this?

Hmm Interrupting the scraping process should not cause a lot of trouble.
It downloads files in the background, which are not connected directly to attract mode.
Then it creates a .txt file with the romlists.

I don't think if any of these files are incomplete attract mode would have an issue.. in worst case it shows an empty list or incomplete artwork.

Did you press the power button and the device shutdown and turned off, or did you press and hold it until the device turned off abruptly?

What could have happen is that the file system got corrupted, so if you can run a fsck on the sd card.

If this doesn't help, try checking the syslog /var/log/syslog for anything unusual regarding attract mode.

I have some very bad SD Cards at home, and they seem to corrupt quite often, resulting in unusable images or attract mode not starting.
It seems the ODROID Go Advance is a little bit picky when it comes to SD cards.

Dude, I'm a Linux system admin. You want to keep people relatively in the dark about what you're doing fine, but don't try to get snooty with me or accuse me of not having a clue just to create confusion. I don't think I'll be using your image personally, if you've got an attitude like this. Have a nice life.
I'm a linux system admin myself, and sorry but I don't try to hold anything in the dark.
Debootstrap is a basic function under Debian and Ubuntu how to create a rootfs for a distribution. It's literally a two liner of code. First line is to install debootstrap second line is to say what distro you want to have a rootfs for.
If you would have taken the time to look it up on google it would have taken you no more than 5mins to understand how it works.

You keep claiming I do something entirely different... talking about some "imaginary" "full OS image" which doesn't exist, and that I remove packages from this to create whatever. No one in it's right mind would do something like this.
Even if you start installing a new Debian on a PC you start from a CD and select what you WANT and not REMOVE what you don't want.
debootstrap works exactly the same. You start with a minimal OS that is slightly over 200 MB in size and then you install what you want simple as that.

I really don't understand where you get your ideas from. Especially since I tried to explain this several times already and you still try to tell me what you think I'm doing.
I think you are missing the point here. You are coming off as arrogant and dismissive and you should just be informing without being condescending. It not pretty and it's not productive. Whatever did his first post do to piss you off? You are doing some good work but the hostile attitude is NOT helpful. Apologising should be your first step. This is a nice device and we all want to get the most out of it so let's recognize our mutual interests and try to help where we can.

I had to press and hold the power knob for the system to shut down. I did the scraping and artwork process without an internet connection cause I don't care so much for the artwork. On the test image with ScummVM only it worked also without internet connection. But it seems that something is wrong with the micro sdcard. After running fsck everything works again. There were errors like "root contains a file system with errors...". Then some blocks have been fixed. For example i_blocks is 16920, should be 16912. It's a sandisk ultra 64GB microsd.
Thank you for the help again :).

Btw where do I find the save files for ScummVM? I wanted to copy the save files from RetroImage 2.3 to the OGSTA Image. In the retro image for FT for example I found files like FT.c00, FT.s00, FT.s01,... in the odroid folder.

The save games are directly in the games folder.
So for example: /home/odroid/ROMS/SCUMMVM/The Secret of Monkey Island/monkey-vga.s00

Ok, it works. Now I have to find better settings. Im comparison to the ScummVM on the other image (out of the box) the sound is sometimes scratchy (kind of laggy sometimes) and you can't read the ScummVM menu really good. Allready played with some Audio and Video settings in retroarch but without effect.

maybe it needs performance mode to run properly.
Can you give me an example where you had sound issue so I can test on my side as well and check on settings?

I just activated the bilinear filtering it does look better now. But the sound issue is really annoying it sounds like the speed is not right or the sampling rate is wrong. You can already hear it in the intro of DotT. The funny thing is that sometimes the sound seems to be ok and then the sound issue comes again.

I've try that stuff to day, it verry best performance i even try on OGA but i think it can better with EmulationStation ui, i don't negative your try to bring your customized UI on debian, but it really bad, can not use theme, very missing stuff customized, not not optimal for gamepad, the scraper art work really bad, i can't change core for ever emulation not like Emuelec or The retro arena, why you don't use ES ui, this give you shorten development time, you don't need thinking to much for your UI to get this perfect, ES have verry long time development, very trusted and stability. I know this will make you sad and wasting programming time, but please use ES ui for next released, i really love your PPSSPP and N64 performance, it is of best FW performance i ever try, one more think, you can set lower resolution and setting for mupen like 320x240, this give you can run on gliden64 pluing and more speed. Thank you so much, love you guy :).

I'm sure meveric gets his kicks from building the image and tying together all components...
