Great to see the improvement. I am new in emulator setup, can we add lr-mame2015 core in to Emuelec? It is because my rom set base on version 0.157.
I would really recommend getting another set, as mame2015 will probably run slow.
ClrMamePro is a ROM-manager to verify romset compatibility. It uses dat files and can modify a later romset, for example, to the proper files/names it requires on an specific earlier romset. See https://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/ It's mainly programmed for M.A.M.E.(Multi Arcade Machine Emulator). ClrMamePro can be used with other emulators, too, through external 'datfiles. ClrMamePro can be very useful to update your ROMs such as merge, unmerge, rebuild files with correct zip/filenames. It can report missing, wrong named, wrong sized, unnecessary sets, ROMs and samples. Don't forget to download DAT files for Your romsets at 'ClrMame Pro' official site.

It is not unusual for the ROMs to change for a game between releases of MAME. Oftentimes, better or more complete ROM dumps are made, or errors are found in the way the ROMs were previously defined. Early versions of MAME were not as meticulous about this issue (which is why some early sets still may work as is on some later mame releases), but more recent MAME builds may have different rom sets for each version and why they may show roms missing. In your case you already have a newer romset so using a utility to build set for earlier release would work rather than a redownload.

On that note, I got the dual band https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M6YB838/ and it works great with Emuelec. It makes the rom-transfer process about 1034% better.

Which MAMESET should be used to get MAME working? 2000? 2003? 2010?

Thanks,

EmuELEC is my favorite so far!
Thank you for this neat OS for the OGA <3

But there are some little flaws I want to fix. I think it is easy but I don't know why.
1. I want that the defaul volume is on 75% and the brightness is on 50%.
2. I want the Snes9x2010 core.
3. I want that the option "GB Colorization" for Gambatte is on "internal" by default. Normaly RetroArch saves the Core settings but not in EmuELEC =(

It is possible to easy fix this flaws I have?

EDIT:
Ah and I need a direct battery indicator... it is also possible?

This ability to change the core/emulator per game is a kickass feature, especially for Arcade games.

Agreed. I also discovered that fbalpha2012_libretro core is great for all CPS games

I've been building my image all day and I now have 42 systems (10593 games) fully working including N64 and Dreamcast controller mapped appropriately. What's the rules on here on linking to fully loaded images? I've gone light on the CD based games so should fit on a 32gb card, so users have the option to add more CD based games if they burn the image to a bigger card. The games that are on there are all good games - no guff.
I mean, I'd love a link to that image!

This sounds very cool and I would love to see the list of games for each system you picked! Great work, that part of this can sure be tedious!

I'm not sure about the legality of posting a fully stocked image though. Some ROMS are still considered to be in the gray area of legality (like sharing mp3s or movies), and could get the board in trouble if they are spreading that type of information/data. I would start a new thread, Google spreadsheet, or Github project for lists of games for each emulator for ##GB size card or type of user or whatever. It'll keep everyone safe from copyright trolls and allow everything to be updated and maintained in a usable manner. You could also post best settings for the emulators to get the best performance for difficult games.

Thanks for the time and effort though. It'll really help those that just want to get playing!

Anyone know if there is a list of all the hotkeys and their functions?

Today I discovered 'select + d-pad up/down' is the volume control in game and it blew my mind.

I'm not sure if this is complete. From a post in the first page of the thread.

In-game hotkeys for Retroarch (some of them also work on Amiberry):
Hotkey is button 1
1 + Up/down controls volume
1 + LB Loads Savestate / RB saves
1 + 4 Shows/hides FPS
1 + 5 fast forward
1 + 6 quits game
1 + x loads menu (this also works with 3 + 4)
1 + b resets
1 + dpad left/right change save slot
For other emulators 1 + 6 quits emulator

It's not allowed to link ROMs or in this case a loaded image.

I would suggest against trying to distributed any "fully loaded images".

Unless you happen to have more lawyers then Nintendo does there is legal issues with distributing copyrighted roms.
A number of emulators also have licensing terms that say that you can't distribute the emulator with any comercial rom files.
It's also a great way to piss off a lot of developers in general, you know the people that actually made the emulation possible.

Must say I am LOVING this image, best out of the 3 I have tried so far.

Just a couple of questions from me....

1) I know this has been asked before, but does anyone have any tips for PSP emulation? Using the libretro PSPP emulator seems to produce better results, but if anyone has any other tips that would be great.

2) Is there a bit of an overall beginners guide for this image and the emulators contained? Which settings work best for which emulator etc. I have seem some comments around how to improve N64 which is great, but something around better performance for PSP, which settings make PSX look like the original games, vs smoother or higher def textures etc?

Just curious, any help is greatly appreciated :-)

What, really, are the differences between the different os’es? I’ve been looking on YouTube and can’t find direct comparison videos, only videos with gameplay samples...

Hello guys! Does anybody else got such errors when launching Setup scripts -> 04 - Configure Reicast? I have a WiFi dongle TP-LINK TL-WN725N pugged in the Odroid Go Advance and it seems work. Connected it to the Internet via my home router. And by the way how to specify native ODROID Go Advance screen resolution? There are no 320p option in the settings. Sorry if the question is too noobish. It's something new to me.

Thanks in advance!

Is there anyway to hide all this extra ps1 files that shows up when I browse true games in my oda? for exemple Tekken 3 when unzip there is 4 files (track 1) (track 2) (cue file) etc.. all of them showing up in my odroid advance.

If you scraped for images and box art, you might be left with duplicate entries in your gamelist.xml file, you can simply remove the ones you don't need.

A +1 for the default volume and brightness and the battery indicator, certainly.

And, yes, how do you save options files for cores (or content directories)? I have enabled the quick_menu_show_save* options in the retroarch.cfg but GB Colorization = Internal setting resets to OFF every time I quit and restart Retroarch. I have also tried to directly edit the retroarch-core-options.cfg file and set it in the EmulationStation menus. None of them have worked for me.

Thanks!

I’m actually wondering the answer to his original question as well. A lot of the other systems I wasn’t able to use zipped folders I had to use the actual extracted files to get the game to run (example being Pc Engine CD). Does the PlayStation emulator work with zipped files? I know the system config says they are readable but I haven’t gotten any zipped folders to run except for arcade games

Great to see the improvement. I am new in emulator setup, can we add lr-mame2015 core in to Emuelec? It is because my rom set base on version 0.157.
I would really recommend getting another set, as mame2015 will probably run slow.
Thanks for your detail explanation.

Is there anyway to hide all this extra ps1 files that shows up when I browse true games in my oda? for exemple Tekken 3 when unzip there is 4 files (track 1) (track 2) (cue file) etc.. all of them showing up in my odroid advance.
I converted all of mine using psx2psp and it gets rid of the multi cd's and adds compression.

Yes, psx works with zipped folders. If your zip files aren't showing up in the games list, just add the .zip extension to the system in es_systems.cfg (works for other systems too, i.e. .crt for c64 and so on).

Thanks!
In retroarch.cfg try making sure the following values are set to true:-

menu_show_advanced_settings
config_save_on_exit

Good to know, I have just been converting everything to .pbp files. Do you happen to know how to get .zip working for pc engine?

Thanks. Thought you might have nailed it there but config_save_on_exit was set to 'true' already.

So what's happening is that these two values in the retroarch-core-options.cfg file are being updated by me
gambatte_gb_colorization = "internal"
gambatte_gb_internal_palette = "GB - DMG"

I save them and it's fine.

Then when I open Retroarch again I'm refreshing the file system in WinSCP at the same time. I can see that something is overwriting the file with what I can only guess is some sort of default (?) settings. Very briefly a file called something like retroarch.[long list of characters] appears in the retroarch folder and the cfg file has a new 'changed' date. The two lines above appear at the bottom of the file and are set to what they were before. I can save option files for the individual games fine.

[Edit: So on closer inspection, when I save in the RA UI, it says it saves but it actually does not update the core-options file. If I manually update the file it does save the new values and then reverts when I open RA again. There's probably something obvious here but that's what I'm seeing. I've used RA in Windows and Android and don't have a lot of experience in Linux.]

I'll nose around the scripts and see if anything jumps out. I'm not a genius at this stuff though.

Thanks.

What, really, are the differences between the different os’es? I’ve been looking on YouTube and can’t find direct comparison videos, only videos with gameplay samples...
Mostly they cater to different preferences. I've used several by now, and here's my 2 cents, for what it's worth:
  • Stock - Meant to be a base for others to build off of.
  • Retro Arena - Stock based, easy to set up, simple to use, minimal config options. Great pick-up-and-go OS
  • EmuELEC - Buildroot/ELEC-based, very complex, very powerful, lots of settings, initially pretty hard to set up. Meant more for advanced users, you'll want to spend time under the hood with this one.
  • Batocera - Buildroot-based. Not sure where this fits in now. It was first out of the gate, but is only 32 bit. People seem to like it though.
Lakka is coming soon too, that's essentially RetroArch (including the RetroArch UI, running on top of a Buildroot-based Linux. Buildroot is about the lightest Linux you can get and still be an actual OS. I also know someone who is looking to take stock and replace EmulationStation with RetroArch, but that's very early stages so far.

Does anyone know the correct file structure for the daphne_libretro core on Emuelec?

I am using the typical file structure for daphne but cannot get them to run; I keep getting booted to the main menu

I love EmuELEC but this overwriting-Stuff is so annoying >_>

Where are the devs of EmuELEC hanging around?
Not on this board it seems...

I don't know if it's just me, but I've only had limited success with this. Only a few zipped PSX games ran on Emuelec (and the one core for PSX), and those that did took considerably longer to load.

My experience so far with Emuelec:

- general experience quite good so far, compatibility, user experience
- was expecting a bit more from N64: even Parallel goes so-so. This emu seems to go quite better on Retro Arena (there's a comparison video on youtube on this). I wonder why...maybe a better core?
- Genesis, SNES are going well, no problem here
- Amiga goes fine, once tinkered a little with PUAE: not the AGA games (laggish like hell, not sure if it's my fault). WHDLoad games run. Amiberry does not work for me, just a workbench boot, and the emu itself seems not to have menu buttons working: I have to turn off the console...
- DosBox works, and frankly quite good (I'd say in the range of an equivalent slow 486). To use this I had to manually use it from RetroArch. Don't expect DOS4GW games to all go fine: Aladdin goes ok for example. Screamer like crap.
- No issues from the PSX games: for the ones with problems, I guess it's a matter of correct BIOS files and positioning. Tried successfully so far GT2, Colin McRae, Road Rash, MGS, Ridge Racer T4. Performance are good: I even tried GT2 with the 60fps code, and it goes like butter. On most games you can also raise the resolution, and it will go fine enough.

I recommend using PSX2PSP to convert your files. Very simple to use and it’s shareware.

Converts everything into one .pbp file

You mean freeware =P

But I recommend to use the lowest compress profile because some games lag with high compression.

I get the same by loading Cannonball.
I wonder if there's a log for us to see for eventual way to fix it...
