Re: ODROID-Go Super

Re: ODROID-Go Super
This is perfect to add a keyboard and have a portable computer. Maybe someone can design a USB keyboard + WiFi combo that would attach nicely to a hinge.

No idea what you're saying but 1.5 or 1.6 won't help with DC or n64 as we're purely mali g31 hw or blob bound.

Another comparison shot, the screen is really nice and bright even at 50% brightness. The D-Pad is great, feels much more refined and smoother, the buttons feel nice too.

Re: ODROID-Go Super
Nice to see comparison photos, the large screen and rounded case look good. I'm surprised by the smaller dpad and buttons though, they don't look as comfortable as the original. Planning to keep making the Advance going forward, or is the Super going to replace it? I'm a fan of the smaller size and 3:2 screen

Re: ODROID-Go Super
I got my device as well, and I have to say, congratulations! this device is awesome! first impressions are very positive! device feels solid, dpad is really good! probably the best handheld I've used this year
Also, EmuELEC is 90% ready, just some small configurations needed.

I did notice some stuff that was mentioned before, Joypads have kept the same UUID so a kernel patch is needed otherwise the same image will not work for all 3 devices, at least not for me since I am bound to UUID and how they are configured.
Just in case anyone needs it, I attach my patch which is just really a continuation of the last one made by Valadaa
https://pastebin.com/gczd6cxp
I also had to use the new version of SDL by @AreaScout to deal with the rotation on the new screen, which btw looks amazing! But I am hoping to backport it to SDL 2.0.10 since that is what I use.
Thanks Hardkernel, and congratulations on this new release!

Re: ODROID-Go Super
I also encountered that issue. Especially messes with SDL2 which checks for the GUID rather than the name of the controller, and two devices having the same GUID kinda defeats the purpose of uniqueshanti wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 10:41 amI did notice some stuff that was mentioned before, Joypads have kept the same UUID so a kernel patch is needed otherwise the same image will not work for all 3 devices, at least not for me since I am bound to UUID and how they are configured.

Anyway I solved this by changing the button layout of the GO3 to match the button layout of the GO2 and with that it's working fine.

SkiffOS looks cool, nice work. I ran Gentoo on the OGA for a while but eventually settled on Void Linux in favor of its cross compilation and init system. Looking forward to seeing your work on this device!

Re: ODROID-Go Super
Odroid go super is amazing thanks for the hard work you put into making it love
the big screen. I was wondering do we have to put it together after we buy it.
Looking forward to it.
Do you have specific release date when its coming out on hard kernel site.
Is there going to be faster cpu in it before release date?
The reason why im asking is because lot of people complaining about not fast cpu and same as oga2 cpu there not buying it i think be good idea to do it to bring up sales on the unit.
Looking forward to it.

The CPU is the same as the OGA, while it would be nice to have an upgrade nothing available at this time would have adequate battery life. When the time comes Hardkernel will likely upgrade to SoC.
They can barely keep up with sales currently and I assure you it will most likely sell out when it becomes available, having integrated volume keys, a smoother more refined case, a larger more bright display and dual analog sticks is quite an upgrade.

Thank you for your suggestion.
I think this approach must be better so, will merge your PR.
Before it, can we change product, revision, name and vendor values?
I've discussed this topic with HK team to fix naming rules.
To avoid collisions with user space virtual input drivers and allows mapping to be pushed to upstream projects,
it's needed that vendor ID should always be 0x484B.
Also to organize existing and future models, we would like to use the following values for product, revision and name.
Code: Select all
[ vendor, product, revision, name ]
OGA : 0x484B, 0x1000, 0x0100, "GO-Advance Gamepad"
OGA-BE : 0x484B, 0x1000, 0x0101, "GO-Advance Gamepad (rev 1.1)"
OGS : 0x484B, 0x1100, 0x0100, "GO-Super Gamepad"
Next model : 0x484B, 0x1200, 0x0100, "GO-Next Gamepad"
Or after your original patch is merged first, I can add another commit based on the rule.
Our target changes are as following.

OGS supports video playback up to 720p on Retro Arena now. I'm enjoying this new device quite a lot. Video snaps and video screen savers are also working, and with the Odroid module 5 wifi adapter, my download speed hit 70mbps.

Re: ODROID-Go Super
Will the development version also be available to buy?
Having the uart port available in the back without having to unscrew the unit would be a huge bonus to do OS development in it. Will the production units also come with the uart header soldered?
Thanks.

No you can't buy the developer version, no the retail doesn't have the header installed.royger wrote:Will the development version also be available to buy?

I think you can purchase the header though, will have to let @odroid answer that one.

Re: ODROID-Go Super
You can also redirect the output to UART2 and use the GPIO header with a USB to TTL converter to get the kernel messages. There is a wiki post on this for the original OGA. But you would need to modify/build the kernel or at least edit the DTB for the changes.rooted wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 8:04 amNo you can't buy the developer version, no the retail doesn't have the header installed.royger wrote:Will the development version also be available to buy?
Having the uart port available in the back without having to unscrew the unit would be a huge bonus to do OS development in it. Will the production units also come with the uart header soldered?
Thanks.
I think you can purchase the header though, will have to let @odroid answer that one.
If I say something that sounds smart or like i know what i'm talking about....i'm faking it.

We've been selling a compatible UART connector.

Re: ODROID-Go Super
Is there any way to maybe preorder it? I might be heavily unavaiable in the end of January (planned hospital, nothing serious) and i am slightly afraid on missing out on it if they sell to fast. It is to my knowledge the best system for my criteria by far (screen allowing for decent-sized integer GBA, PS1 and SNES resolutions + dpad above the stick).

Re: ODROID-Go Super
Thanks for the replies. I can easily solder it without issues, or look into using the second uart.odroid wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 10:05 amWe've been selling a compatible UART connector.

No it does not have it built in, you can however purchase a dongle like this which has both bluetooth and wireless and will outperform internal wireless.animeware wrote:What kind of new features will the Odroid go Super have over the Developer Version I was just wondering. does it include bluetooth and wifi support I can use wireless headphones on it correct...

Re: ODROID-Go Super
Will there be support for one or multiple usb controllers for local multiplayer?
Also, are any of the is image developers working on a screen cast option being that there's no video out?
New here, sorry if this was already addressed.

Re: ODROID-Go Super
USB controllers will work as before on oga.
Screencasting is possible (and in testing on lineage os I believe) but will be too laggy for gameplay. Could possibly work for video I guess, but surely better off using a different device?

Re: ODROID-Go Super
Thanks for the reply; I don't have the OGA and wasn't finding clear evidence of usb controllers when searching so had to ask.
When you say usb controllers will work do you mean that one of the " multiple" needs to be the OGA/S and one an external controller?
Or could I set up multiple external controllers? so I can prop up the OGS on a table or something
