Swing away Merrill, Merrill swing away.

It's a lot of coincidence. My wrong guesses caught by the same guy. I'm learning a lot from him. Won't stop me from guessing, thanks.

Indeed, @crashoverride is a smart individual that we can all learn a thing or two from. Often enough I'm corrected by him.

OGA-BE engineering samples have arrived to some developers and users.

OS developers must use the latest u-boot code with the following items in boot.ini to load a proper DTB file.
A new u-boot variable hwrev contains the PCB revision information.

Code: Select all

if test ${hwrev} = 'v11'; then
load mmc 1:1 ${dtb_loadaddr} rk3326-odroidgo2-linux-v11.dtb
else
load mmc 1:1 ${dtb_loadaddr} rk3326-odroidgo2-linux.dtb

I got mine, but I've run into a small issue, it seems that the WiFi module is causing a Kernel panic when returning from sleep (suspend) I am not 100% sure since the unit I got does not have a UART header, so I am trying to get one to solder it and check.

But if I remove the WiFi module from the .dts and compiled the dtb the sleep works as intended. (also if I use the v1 dtb)

@shanti,
As far as I remember, the SDIO or WiFi driver doesn't support well the sleep function.
So we needed to unload & load the driver modules before/after suspend-resume process as a workaround.
I hope @joy will explain which drivers should be handled dynamically.

Thanks, I added the UART port and I have the logs now in case they are needed. Also, should I open a new thread about this?

Yes, open a new thread in the "Platform development" sub-forum.

    Hi @shanti,
There is an issue related to esp8089 suspend&resume,
and it seems mac80211 driver doesn't make connections from existing esp module driver during resume process and shows kernel crash.
I've been looking into this issue.

As an workaround, could you try the following instruction until we fix it?

    - Please edit this file.
    /lib/systemd/system-sleep/sleep

    Code: Select all

    #!/bin/bash

    case $1 in
      pre)
    rmmod esp8089
           ;;
      post)
           ;;
    esac

With this workaround, esp8089 module driver is loaded dynamically after resume
and network with wlan0 will work normally. ;)

As I checked, sleep current is similar as before, around 10mA.

It's not in stock at Ameridroid yet and shipping from Korea is $40 (+$59 = $99).

I spent most of the holiday trying to give people my money but everything was either unavailable, backordered or just plain vaporware like the PineTab. Didn't spend a cent.

So, after half a day of lightning fast sales, now we're waiting for a news about the next batch of transparent housings? :D

Presumably the transparent housings have sold out for the paint options not the transparency I hope as the black board does not suit a transparent case and the light bleed will still be an issue.

I went with the black, some red buttons, black silicon options buttons to hide them a little, new silicon pads and a psVita analog stick.

Just a waiting game on dispatch now 👍👍

Boooo, I missed all of the messages that it was up for sale. I kept refreshing Ameridroid waiting for an update as that's where I got my first set from. I still got two with the black housings...but kinda salty....

Holy crap! What happened with shipping? That's 2.5x what it was a few months ago... EDIT: shipping was list at ~$41?! v. IIRC it was ~$17 when the 1.0 OGA came out...

anyways, I'm just going to wait for the clear version, which will be LEFT clear...

Exactly, it is just exactly the same shipping costs as the previous one.
By the way, is out of stock the clear one, just the black one is there (but you can still get the black one + a clear housing too for just $7 extra...), and I guess in just few hours will not be anything!! LOL

If were a little more transparent, it would be my choice too. But is a little too opaque for me... (and being the mainboard black, doesn't help..., is not a good combination for black case IMHO)

As a consumer, I really like the black case. It removes visual distractions and makes the display the focus of attention.

As a developer, I prefer clear cases. It makes it easier to tell if the device is on fire.

I like the clear more, I was just saying the black is not bad and doesn't have that cheap appearance the images sort of conveys.

The clear reminds me of a phone I had when I was younger.

i'm very interested in the product. do you ship it without the battery? cause my country custom make it hard to ship anything with a battery. even my local store that listed on your website refuse to ship it because of it.
    ship to indonesia btw

Yeah I dont get it. Saw a previous message that states they would start dispatching 27/28th, now their website states a 10 day delay for any order after 25th May because of the amount of orders and enquiries. Surely anyone who ordered on 25th gets dispatched, then people on 26th etc? Sounds almost like they're wanting to send everyones in one go with a 10+ day delay.

I received an emai from fedex with tracking on the 28th, however my order still shows as processing and the tracking merely states label created, so fedex either haven’t collected it yet, or Hardkernel haven’t dropped it to their dispatch depot. Either way it’s very frustrating

Since it's already sold out, most likely they have to ship probably > 10k units (I have no idea how many they built) in a very short amount of time with limited staff, so expect delays. Add on top of that the facts that:
    1. South Koreea is going through a second covid outbreak, so they may need to take special safety measures
    2. They might have a limit on their fedex contract of how many things they can ship per day
    3. Fedex itself has shipping delays (I'm still waiting on an order placed around May 14th with HK with the parcel being delayed through Europe).

So, consider it's special circumstances, and have patience in getting processed. Every small business has problems absorbing such spikes in demand...

I was expecting the spike in demand because the OGA is getting very popular. The most likely thing to happen next is another delay, but with this current health crisis it's expected. So don't worry if the OGA doesn't ship within a month.
    I hope you have a good day/night!

The second batch has sold out in a week. Demand was much higher than expected.
Due to our limited production/shipment capability, we may need two more weeks to ship out all the orders.

We've been checking the schedule with our component suppliers for the third batch production.
I think the third batch products will be ready to ship in late July or early August.
We can confirm the schedule a couple of weeks later.

Sorry for the continuous shortage problem.

Are we not going to mention all the clones using the same parts too.... Gotta cause a shortage somewhere. 🤔

I'm so excited. Reminds me of the good old Dingoo A320 days.
Thanks to HK for their hard work and sensible pricing. Hopefully they'll sell millions of these soon. :o

odroid.co.uk seem to be showing on their website that they have them in stock if that helps anyone.

Sorry but I ordered the clone last week due to lack of availability of the OGA. Yes I agree it is very morally wrong for what this manufacturer has done to HardKernel but its probably morally wrong to be playing roms that you may not own. Such is life unfortunately.

To be fair, the OGA was the pacesetter. HardKernel were ahead of the game. The other handhelds will come now. I sincerely do hope the demand for your product remains through these supply issues. I still love my Odroid Go. Quality product.

Again, I am just trying to get ahead on this ...

None of the developers I have spoken with have expressed any interest in supporting the clone hardware. Future images and/or features will likely not work on it. Please do not report these issues on this forum. You will need to contact China for all your future images/upgrades or compile your own.

Hi, I would not have the bare faced cheek to come on here and report about an OS not working on the clone! I'm just gutted that ODroid can not meet demand with supply and I made the order not knowing that a UK supplier (odroid.co.uk) seemingly has some in stock now (which I have pointed people to on another topic and if I spot another supplier has them, I will support by pointing this out for people) and I wanted the clear one to do a spray up job on it. I did message a couple of the developers to ask this question of course but got no answer and I thank you for making the situation clearer.

I just hope HardKernel do a bigger manufacturing run for their next batch to stop the demand for the clone going forward. If they don't, they have failed to learn the lesson from this scenario and other handhelds will start coming out of the woodwork. You can only be the pace setters for so long.

It would be interesting to know the story of how this supplier has got hold of Odroid circuit boards to do this because the clone supplier has seemingly mass produced this in a short amount of time with plenty of supply and its not like the shell, hardware and buttons are of a really bad quality which you would expect if it has been rushed. They have blatantly used the same board and kept it white even!

I don't want to support a clone who has used this unscrupulous method but please understand one of the buying motivations outside of hardware and software quality etc. is timing and ease of supply within my budget and I want a handheld for some lower level N64 stuff and Dreamcast. I'll still go back to my ODroid Go for my 8-bit needs (it just feels right to play Gameboy on that thing).

I wish you and the rest of the ODroid community well and who knows I may end up owning an OGA-BE at some point down the line anyway.

I think it is time to stop developing new gaming devices if copycats are more popular.

If you pick out the bones of what i'm saying, you'll see that I am gutted about lack of availability and I think you will find this is the case with a lot of people that have bought the clone. But I am also like many of these people a collector and will probably own your product a year down the line when I can actually get hold of one.

I can't see the copy cats becoming more popular and wouldn't like to. The strength of the OGA does not just lie in its hardware being ahead of the game when there were still a lot of MIPS devices being punted around. It lies within its community, developers and this forum. Thats why the Odroid Go was and is a great little starter product because they still have developers who continues to work on their own images for it now (I use Retro-Go)!

However with any product, there is the age old story of what happens when supply does not meet demand. I think you will always have a following that want this handheld because the support and spares are there. But if another supplier legitimately steps up with the same kind of offering and service with a device it dilutes your market for which as it stands there is a very high demand. It's unscrupulous what the clone has done morally but purely on a business and financial level in the short term, I cannot deny it is clever even if their focus is only short term.

Is this clone the reason for your supply issues? If so, share that so people know.

Just an idea, I think you should maybe share a YouTube video with the wider gaming community to share your story in regards to how you have been blatantly ripped off, how it happened but also use that time to warn of the shortcomings of the clone being able to use the various operating systems going forward and the consequences. Its a little more personal and promotional in the right way.

I wish you and everyone at HardKernel the best of health during these times. Stay safe.
